Injuries in clash between tribes continues in Papua At least nine people were injured when another clash erupted between two groups in Kwamki Lama district in the Papua regency of Mimika on Tuesday morning. Mimika Baru Police chief Adj. Comr. Langgia told that eight of the victims had been taken to a local hospital.

Indonesia stops sending maids to Malaysia immediately Indonesia has ordered employment agencies to stop sending its citizens to Malaysia to work as maids. Indonesian Manpower Minister Erman Suparno said the decision - effective today - would remain in place until safeguards are implemented in Malaysia. I have spoken of the temporary halt in bilateral talks with the Malaysian Human Resources Minister (Datuk Dr S. Subrama-niam) during the International Labour Conference in Geneva on June 12, Erman said in a statement yesterday.

Increasing problems for Phuket Air in UK Phuket Air logoA cut-price Thai holiday airline has been banned from flying to Britain after a safety scare during April in which passengers staged a rebellion when they saw fuel leaking from a wing. Phuket Air, which was used by several leading tour operators including Kuoni and Thomson Holidays, has had its operating licences suspended in Britain and its other European destination, the Netherlands.

PLN meter readings 'often incorrect' State-owned power company PT PLN has acknowledged that electricity meter readings are often incorrect and give rise to unreasonable bills. It plans to implement a new system, but has warned that customers may face high bills as a result of arrears and unpaid usage as a consequence. "There will be a 'booming' of bills," Fahmi Mochtar, the general manager of the firm's Jakarta and Tangerang branch, said on Saturday.

Golkar vows not yo repeat Suharto-era blunders The chairman of Indonesia's former ruling Golkar party has promised not to repeat the mistakes it made as former dictator, Suharto's political vehicle. Akbar Tandjung, who is also parliamentary speaker and a presidential-hopeful, insists that his party is committed to reform. The party has been using the economic stability of the Suharto-era as a ticket to garner more votes. As Indonesians go to the polls in legislative elections on Monday, April 5th, analysts are saying that voters are now concerned with electing a party that can bring about economic prosperity.

Major celebrations are underway in the Netherlands to commemorate the Dutch East India Company's (VOC) 400th anniversary this year. This commemoration is especially targeted at Holland's younger generation, to instill a sense of pride in their history. However, nations that have suffered under colonialism, such as Indonesia, would surely have a different perspective on the VOC, the trading company with political and military power.
