Acehnese residents find skeletons of tsunami victims Acehnese residents found three skeletons which were suspected to be part of tsunami victims in December 2004. According to the residents, they found the skeletons when they were taking the sand after being dredged from Krueng (river) Aceh in Surabaya hamlet of Ateuk Pahlawan Village, Baiturrahman subdistrict, Banda Aceh City.

Strong monsoons could mean increased droughts in Indonesia Fears of strengthening monsoons in Asia could spell trouble for parts of Australia and Indonesia which will see longer and more frequent droughts in the future, according to a study published in Nature on Thursday. By examining the chemical makeup of corals off Indonesia's Sumatra island, researchers found that stronger monsoons in Asia 6,500 years ago led to greater ocean cooling in the eastern Indian Ocean, which reduced evaporation and, in turn increased the droughts in Indonesia and Australia.

Scientists in Indonesia find evidence of another 'Hobbit' Scientists digging in a remote Indonesian cave have uncovered a jaw bone that they say adds more evidence that a tiny prehistoric Hobbit-like species once existed. The jaw is from the ninth individual believed to have lived as recently as 12,000 years ago. The bones are in a wet cave on the island of Flores in the eastern limb of the Indonesian archipelago, near Australia.

Around the world the bleaching and dyeing of coral reef, as a way of recognizing the destructive changes in ocean and climate conditions, has begun. Along with these changes, the coral reef ecosystem has been devastated, affecting people whose lives depend on them. Changes in climate conditions will continue to affect coral reefs for some time.
