What if I was a terrorist Just over one week ago it all happened. At walking distance one person was killed, some were arrested and after that the party was over as quick as it started. It wasn't a criminal shootout and n drugs were found as well. It was nothing more than busting some terrorism-suspects by an anti-terror squad from the Indonesian police (Densus 88); they were simply overwhelmed in their hide-out. The one that tried to flea, was directly given some bullets and didn't survive the event. Seven others were arrested. In fact that could be the entire story, but it was just not to happen that way. It proved to be the start of what currently looks like a terror cell uncovered. Within two weeks after the first shooting several more police actions were held. Police is scarce with giving information, but in recent days is became clear that most likely a part of the Southeast Asian terror network Jemaah Islamiyah has been found.

Azahari, hard work and stupidity If there was ever an occasion when the words "terrorism" and "good news" can ever be used in the same sentence, then Wednesday's police raid that led to the death of bombmaker Dr. Azahari was certainly one of them. It had been a long time coming. The work of the notorious Demolition Man is believed to have been behind four of the worst terrorist attacks in Indonesia -- the Bali bombings of 2002, the JW Marriott Hotel bombing in 2003, the Kuningan bombing in Jakarta in 2004, and last month's bombings in Kuta and Jimbaran.

Aceh rebels lose the plot, and the war The news that the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) will soon sign a peace agreement with the Indonesian government came as a pleasant surprise to Indonesians who had long wanted to see the bloody conflict there to come to an end. Nevertheless, it also invites curiosity as to why the rebels suddenly agreed to enter into a peace agreement with the government. The secessionist movement, which has been fighting for independence since 1976, had always refused to settle for anything less than a nation separated from the Republic of Indonesia. Over 10,000 people, mostly innocent civilians, have been killed in the conflict.
