One more dead of rabies on Bali 48-year-old Luh Sri Reksen, a grade school teacher from Bubunan Seririt in North Bali, has become Bali's latest victim of rabies following her death on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. As reported by Kompas.com, the woman's 75-year-old father, Ketut Wirata, said that prior to her death his daughter suffered chest pains, difficulties in swallowing and seizures.

Death toll from rabies now at 108 Kompas.com confirms that the rabies virus has now claimed 108 victims in Bali. Ketut Gede (55) from Bangli died at the Sanglah General Hospital shortly after presenting with the clinical symptoms of rabies. "The victim was experiencing seizures, difficulties in swallowing, and phobias to both water and light," explained Dr. IGB Ken Wirasandhi of the rabies control team at the hospital.

Two Taiwanese arrested for drugs trafficking Indonesian authorities have arrested two Taiwanese nationals for trying to smuggle nearly seven kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine into the country, local media reports said Sunday. The two, identified as Kuo Ting Liu, 23, and Huang Yu Lum, 26, were arrested on Friday by custom officers at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International airport, soon after they arrived on a China Airlines flight from Hong Kong.

Anarchy reigns in West Lombok Back to Lombok after almost two years - my last visit to this beautiful and quiet island east of the messy Bali dates back to January 2005 - I noticed that certain things had changed, and too bad not only for the good of the island. It has nothing to do with increased tourist numbers to the island or the fact that big positive points are to be awarded.

Indonesia confiscates record 950 kilos of crystal methamphetamine Indonesian police on Tuesday confiscated nearly 1 ton of crystal methamphetamine apparently smuggled into the country from Hong Kong in what was believed to be the largest seizure in the country's history, a senior official said. The national police chief, General Sutanto, said about 950 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as "shabu-shabu," was seized by the Jakarta city police during routine patrols in the Tanggerang district on the western outskirts of Jakarta, the state-run Antara news agency reported.

WHO: Tetanus kills 18 quake survivors in Java Tetanus has killed at least 18 earthquake survivors in Indonesia among more than 50 known cases of the infection spread through bacteria, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday. Indonesian health workers and the United Nations agency have been conducting vaccination campaigns against tetanus and measles after the May 27 quake around Yogyakarta that killed more than 5,700 people and left tens of thousands homeless.
