BI imposes harsh sanctions on Citibank Bank Indonesia (BI) announced Friday it was imposing severe sanctions on Citibank following a massive embezzlement scandal by a bank employee and the suspected death of a customer at the hands of debt collectors recently. The bank possibly faces other sanctions if found guilty of the two crimes by a court.

More commuter trains for travelers in Greater Jakarta Seen the ever increasing number of passengers on the KRL commuter trains in Greater Jakarta, the state-owned company running the trains, PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek, will increase the number of trains as soon as possible. As early as next year, more trains will be running on the routes operated by the KRL commuter trains.

The TransJakarta Busway as wrong example With currently at least a dozen routes throughout many parts of Jakarta it is possible to travel around the city for just 3,500 Rupiah per person. It doesn't even matter how many transfers you make. The oldest routes have their own lanes through dense traffic conditions in many parts of the city, but elsewhere the big buses have to compete with a few million other road users.

Mount Merapi shows no sign of cooling down The activity of the Mount Merapi volcano doesn't show any sign of decreasing. Until now the volcano emits hot ash clouds high into the air and it also sends ash clouds down it's slopes with a high frequency. A spokesperson of the Geology department of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed this news a while ago.

Garuda reports strong loads on new Amsterdam route Bisnis.com reports that three weeks into the re-launch of Garuda Indonesia's Jakarta-Amsterdam service load factors are running at 70%. The commercial director of Garuda, Agus Priyanto, predicts that load factors on the new European route will reach 80% in July.

90% of Indonesian museums not fit to visit Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, says that 90% of Indonesian museums are not fit for tourist to visit. "The condition of our museums is concerning. 90% are not well managed and are unfit to visit," says Wacik. Because of this, Wacik is calling for more attention to be paid to how the country's museums are managed and operated.

Camera's in TransJakarta busway stations Some of the bus stops of the TransJakarta busway, that's in Jakarta indeed, have CCTV available. Normally this kind of technique is broken beyond repair soon after it has been installed, but this case is a positive exception. The camera's in 13 of the bus stops along corridor one and six are up and running. You can even view their images on the internet.

The wrong kind of home industry: mixing alcohol The police in Surabaya has raided a house of which the owner though it would be a good idea to make some real Indonesian products by himself. Unfortunately he choose to process alcoholic drinks in his own house, which is not allowed unless you have a permit for it. But it didn't end there, so the police did not raid the house for nothing.

The mess at PLN Cikarang #5 After a month of 'uncertainty' I headed for the local office of PLN once more late last week. I was still hoping to be able to pay my electricity bill. It was the fifth time I was here, just to pay the bill for the power that I had consumed since the time I moved in here last June. Rail connection Bogor - Sukabumi still closed after landslide The rail connection between Bogor and Sukabumi has been closed for over a month now, but progress has been made and the route is slated for reopening early next week. A landslide wiped out the track over a distance of several hundred meters near a bridge over the Cigombong river. In the first planning, reconstruction should only take a week though.

Malaysia Airlines: KL - Bali flights three times a day Malaysia Airlines have increased to three flights a day its services between Kuala Lumpur and Bali. Tourist visitors traveling from the Malaysian capital have the choice of three departure times at 08:45, 12:25 and 15:20. The additional flight, increasing from twice to thrice the number of daily flights, will remain in effect until December 31, 2009.

Injuries and damage after quake strikes off Bali The earthquake that struck some 100 kilometers south of the resort island of Bali has caused some injuries and damage, according to a spokesperson of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency BMKG. No tsunami warning was issued, but the shaking was felt strongly throughout most parts of the island.

Technical problems at the website Since around half past three Dutch time (GMT+2) problems occurred at the computer that is displaying this website. However the problems only occurred in parts of the website, it was the part that is displayed for visitors that had the problem, so visitors did not see anything more than an error telling them the website was unavailable. The problems occurred at all websites so websites like indonesiepagina.nl and kamus-online.com were also unavailable.

'Suharto's son wants Indonesian presidency' Hutomo Mandala Putra, the son of late Indonesian president Suharto, has started his effort to finally become a president. An aide of Tommy, as he is widely known, has said this to the press. Tommy has built up quite an impressive 'track record' in legal matters, including a conviction for murder. He is now seeking to become the new leader of the Golkar Party, the political movement of his father, which has been in turmoil after loosing the recent elections.
