Bali to build new international hospital Beritabali.com reports that the provincial government of Bali will begin the construction of an international standard hospital in the early part of 2012. The government has set aside Rp. 168 billion (12 million euro) to build the proposed 200-room hospital.

Two dead in suicide bomb attack on Surakarta church At least two people had been confirmed dead in a suicide attack in a church in Solo. Bambang Sumartono, an official at Dr. Oen hospital, said that 20 people, including a child, were admitted to the hospital, and one of the victims, a teenager, died in the emergency room.

10.000 more hotel rooms add to oversupply for Bali Beritabali.com says the Bali Hotel Association (BHA) is predicting an increase of 10,000 new hotel rooms will come on line in Bali in 2011. The permits for these new hotels were issued before the provincial government of Bali introduced a moratorium on new hotel projects in the island’s southernmost regions.

Child imprisonment in Indonesia rampant The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection said on Wednesday that nearly 7,000 minors face criminal trials in Indonesian courtrooms each year, the Jakarta Globe reported. The commission, also known as the KPAI, said that 90 percent of them, about 6,300 minors, end up incarcerated alongside adult suspects, as there are no special holding cells for children.

Bali targeting 2.7 million foreign tourists in 2011 Bali is targeting total foreign tourist arrivals of between 2.6 - 2.8 million for 2011. The chief of the Bali office of the National Board of Statistics (BPS), Gede Suarsa, told Bali Post, "that target is higher that the 2.57 million foreign visitors achieved in 2010, a number that surpassed the stated target of 2 to 2.3 million."
