Snipers on the highway? The local police in some districts along the northern highway over the island of Java will install snipers on points where crime is rampant. The snipers will be placed between Situbondo and Banyuwangi in East Java province during the Idul Fitri travel period. Six kilo's of gold stolen in armed robbery in Bogor In broad daylight, a gold shop in Bogor was robbed of six kilo's of gold. Armed robbers stole the gold with a value of some 1.5 billion Rupiah (110.000 euro) and also took some 20 million Rupiah in cash money and two handphones that belonged to the owner of the store, Un Ket Fa. The robbery took place around eight o'clock in the morning, just after the shop opened, and just took a few minutes.

Inmates escape from Bandung jail Three inmates escaped from a jail in the West Java capital of Bandung today in the second jailbreak in Indonesia in two days. State news agency Antara said the three prisoners at Sukamiskin penitentiary broke out of Cell No.60 and climbed over a wall to freedom. The fugitives were identified as Ida Bagus Bima Purwoko alias Agus (36), Fauzi alias Ghani (32), and Romly Angkasa (26). The report did not state what they had been serving time for.

2 Bali bombing 'fund raisers' get 15 years imprisonment Two men who robbed a jeweller's shop to raise funds for the Bali bombings were each jailed for 15 years by different courts on Monday. Judge Ida Bagus Jagra found Andi Hidayat, alias Agus, guilty of "jointly with others providing funds for a terrorist action." The judge said Hidayat in August 2002 took part in a robbery of the shop at Serang in west Java in which 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) of gold jewelry and Rp5 million (US$600) in cash was stolen.
