Will Garuda get competition from Sriwijaya Air? Plans from Indonesian Airliner Sriwijaya Air to give Garuda Indonesia some competition, will be realised in the second quarter of 2012. The airliner will then also offer full service flights, like Garuda is doing at the moment. The first visible step is the replacfement of all Boeing 737-200 planes for Boeing 737-500 planes.

Lion Air opens Jakarta - Lampung route Starting from August 24, Lion Air will operate a daily flight from Jakarta to Lampung and back again. Flying Merpati Nusantara? Are you sure? Figures from ticketindonesia.info show that the airline with the most canceled flights in their name is Merpati Nusantara. This Indonesian state-owned company, also partially owned by Garuda Indonesia, seems to have a peculiar way of conducting business; selling tickets, canceling flights and then wait for months to pay back the money paid for tickets on those canceled flight. At least it seems that way.

Vice-president Boediono has ordered the management of PT Angkasa Pura I, the manager of airports in Indonesia, to open up the new Lombok international airport from October 1, 2011. "I want to hear from PT Angkasa Pura I that they will be able to open the airport, because it should have been opened in early 2010 already."

Citilink will operate first Airbus A320 in July The low-cost daughter company of Indonesian airliner Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, will soon start renewing it's fleet. It will receive it's first Airbus A320 plane in July 2011. Until the year end it will receive another five of those planes, so it can replace older planes it is currently operating.

Late arrival of Boeing 777-300 planes for Garuda The new Boeing 777-300 planes that were ordered by Garuda Indonesia (GIAA), will not be delivered to Garuda as scheduled. The planes were due to arrive late 2012 or at latest early 2013, but Boeing now says that is will not be able to comply to this. There is a backlog at the Boeing plant in Seattle in the United States. Garuda expects that two out of the total order of 10 will be delivered in 2013.

Wings Air purchases 15 more ATR 72-500 planes Wings Air, a full daugher of Indonesian airliner Lion Air, has confirmed the purchase of another 15 units of ATR 72-500 planes. Lion Air confirmed the order with a joint venture between Turboprop An Alenia Aeronotica and EADS. The most recent purchase is a continuation of a purchase of 30 planes in 2009.
