The price of fuel in the city of Padang and surrounding regions has jumped to absurd levels soon after the earthquake. With most gas stations too damaged to be opened for service and others not being able to sell fuel because of shortages, traders can ask almost anything for just one liter of fuel. Most fuel now costs 40,000 Rupiah per liter (2.85 euro) where this normally is 5,500 Rupiah per liter (0.39 euro) for fuel sold in the streets.
