Foreign prisoner becomes Indonesian problem A foreigner which is currently ending his jail term in a prison in Tanjungpinang in Riau Islands province after he was convicted of stealing fish from the seas around Natuna, has lost his nationality. This is causing problems for Indonesia. The man, is only known as the 30-year-old Lyce, according to the head of the immigration office in Tanjungpinang.

44 patients with suspected Mexican Flu in hospitals As much as 44 suspected cases of Mexican Flu are recorded in Indonesia at this moment. However information about most cases is limited, there are 14 suspected patients in a Jakarta hospital while 11 others are in the Sanglah general hospital on the resort island of Bali. 11 more suspected cases are treated in a hospital in Medan, North Sumatra.

Indonesia seeks extradition of 15 executives from Singapore Indonesia will seek the extradition of 15 businessmen believed to be hiding millions of dollars in stolen state funds in Singapore, according to the new Attorney General Hendarman Supanji. In his first statement since being appointed last Tuesday, Supanji said authorities had compiled a list of suspects. No names were released, but local media identified them as being Indonesian Chinese who owned commercial banks when the banking system collapsed in 1997.

Jakarta looks deserted as fasting month draws to end As the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadhan draws to close, Indonesia's capital city Jakarta's boisterous hustle and bustle receded as of Sunday because many residents returned to their home villages or towns to celebrate the Islamic festive days of Idul Fitri which will fall on Monday. According to local media reports, the quietness of the city was felt in the last three or two days.

Second probable SARS case reported Indonesia said on Wednesday it had registered its second probable case of SARS, the deadly virus which has broken out over large parts of Asia. "We have a new probable case involving a 65-year-old male in Medan," Syafei Ahmad of the Indonesian health ministry told reporters, referring to Indonesia's third largest city.
