4 accused of plotting to ship weapons to Indonesia Four Asian businessmen plotted to buy hundreds of handguns, machine guns, Sidewinder missiles and aviation radar equipment for export to Indonesia, creating a threat to national security, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. The four men - who have been charged in Detroit and Honolulu - were arrested Sunday after meeting in Hawaii with people they thought were representatives of a Detroit-area company, which authorities say the men believed would supply the military hardware. It was to be shipped to Indonesia through Singapore.

Indonesia launches first self-made rocket Indonesia launched its first self- made rocket from the West Java-based rocket launching pad Wednesday morning, Antara News Agency reported. The rocket was built by the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN), which has planned to launch nine rockets on Wednesday and Thursday. It was not clear whether the rocket development was part of the Indonesian military's initial program to produce its own missiles intended for the navy.

Military chief backs Aussie missile plan Indonesia’s top military commander has thrown his backing behind Australian plans to join the US in developing a “Son-of-Star-Wars” shield against long-range missile attack, saying the umbrella could help guard Indonesia. Commander-in-chief General Endriartono Sutarto, speaking after a meeting of all senior military commanders, including fiery army chief Ryamizard Ryacudu, said the missile shield could be a plus for Jakarta. “With them developing such a missile system like this, we can make use of it for our own regional stability in facing possible threats from outside of the region,” Gen Sutarto said.

The military says it has killed 15 GAM fighters since the offensive began, while GAM has estimated 20 civilians have been killed by the operation. No independent confirmation was available.

U.S. warship, USS O'brien told to leave RI waters U.S. Spurance Class type destroyer USS O'brein was told to leave Maluku waters by Indonesia's Rencong and Pandrong naval ships as its arrival raised suspicion. The warship was reportedly armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles. Commander of the Indonesian Navy Eastern Fleet, Rear Adm. Djoko Sumaryono, told Antara on Thursday that the warship was spotted in Indonesian territory between the Seram Sea and the Buru Sea on Saturday without notification of its purpose.
