One eviction, thousands homeless More than 1,000 people became homeless in a forced eviction on Thursday at a 15-hectare plot of land in Tanjung Duren Selatan subdistrict, West Jakarta. The eviction caused massive traffic jams along the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road, Jl. S. Parman and roads surrounding Mal Taman Anggrek as "illegal" occupants blocked the access to their neighborhood by burning tires on the toll road and feeder roads.

Jakarta's JW Marriott hotel reopens The U.S.-franchised JW Marriott hotel reopened here Monday almost five weeks after a car bomb killed 12 people and injured almost 150. "There was no special ceremony but this morning, around eight, there were already several guests breakfasting at our Sailendra restaurant," said spokeswoman Melanie Solagratia.

European states warn citizens to leave Indonesia The governments of Britain, Germany and Denmark have advised their nationals to leave Indonesia, with Britain also saying it is pulling out its non-essential diplomats following last weekend's bomb blast in Bali. The British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, says Britons should not travel to the country and those who must remain should take extra precautions in public places.

Kebayoran Baru, the first housing complex Living in Kebayoran Baru area remains just a dream for most Jakartans. The area not only offers luxurious housing but also hang out spots such as malls, hotels, cafes and the like. However, history has shown that Kebayoran Baru needed years before developing itself into an "attractive" neighborhood. In the 1950s, it was still an "unwanted" living area as it was located eight kilometers from the city center, considered quite far at the time. In addition, road access to the area was inadequate as the housing was built on a plantation.

Men sweep hotels in Surakarta Not withstanding the government's efforts to ease tensions with the U.S. government, dozens of men clad in green military-style uniforms stormed into a number of international hotels in Surakarta, Central Java, on Sunday demanding that American guests leave the country. Hotel staff were reportedly warned that checks would be held at the hotels for American guests and, if found, they would be asked to leave the country within 48 hours.
