Jakarta authorities set to impose penalty for littering The Jakarta administration is set to impose a penalty for littering, which is in violation of Law No. 3/2013 on Waste Treatment. "Those who litter will be fined. An individual fine could be Rp500,000, while a company could be fined Rp50 million," Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated on Wednesday.

Bali: trash in plain sight of foreign tourists an eyesore Bisnis Bali reports that foreign tourists visiting Bali continue to complain about the lack of cleanliness in many tourist areas of the island. Nyoman Kandia, the head of the Bali branch of the Indonesian Guide Association (HPI), recently called on the government and the public to join forces in addressing the problem of trash in Bali which has become the source of numerous complaints from foreign visitors served by the island's tourist guides.

Security tightened after Bali suicide bombings Security was tightened across Indonesia Sunday after suicide bombers detonated a string of explosions at tourist hot-spots on the island of Bali, killing 19 and injuring at least 132. The attacks -- two at cafes near Jimbaran and one at a restaurant in Kuta's main square -- came less than two weeks ahead of the third anniversary of 2002's deadly nightclub bombings in Bali.

Monas park has new Las Vegas-style fountain A touch of glamor has been lent to the National Monument (Monas) park -- already home to deer and colored pigeons -- with the opening on Saturday night of a fountain that emulates the Las Vegas Bellagio fountains. With music and choreographed laser beams, the Rp 26 billion fountain, which is in the west of the park in Central Jakarta, accompanies Monas, the city's principal landmark, a 132-meter-high column topped with a glittering flame.

Scope of destruction in Indonesia remains unclear It is called Mecca's Veranda because for centuries, Aceh province's bustling ports have been the final embarkation point for devout Indonesian Muslims bound for the hajj, the mandatory pilgrimage all Muslims are expected to make at least once. Today, vast swaths of the rugged province on the northern tip of Sumatra have disappeared beneath mountains of mud left by Sunday's tsunami. Giant waves demolished homes and businesses on the Indonesian island and claimed the lives of thousands.

Some 30 years ago, there were no luxury hotels, spas or expensive restaurants in the present location of the exclusive resort area of Nusa Dua, or literarily means the two islets referring to the projections of big rocks in the middle of the white stretch of beaches. If you look up the map of Bali Island, you will find the Nusa Dua area, 30 kilometers south of Bali\'s provincial capital of Denpasar, in the bottom part of the map overlooking the Indonesian Ocean.

Lombok is the perfect alternative to its more crowded and busier neighbor, Bali. When you visit Lombok island, you will see a mixture of the cultures of Bali and Lombok, but if you visit only Bali island you certainly cannot view the culture of Lombok. Home to Sasak people, who migrated to Lombok from East Java as the Hindu Majapahit Empire fell at the end of the 14th century, the island is rich in natural and cultural treasures, which have not yet been exploited for tourism.
