How to scare the shit out of people Plane crashes normally are breaking news across the world because of their sudden nature and the often high numbers of casualties involved in that kind of accidents. Reporting such events - and others that are also causing worldwide news - should be handled with care. However it is not always that easy to select the information and images going with them. Making a mistake in a hurry is nothing uncommon as well.

Only two pilots in simulator, training a success The first reaction from Indonesia on the ban to fly to countries of the European Union for all Indonesian airliners was as clear as it could be. Furious they were, because there were no structural problems at all in the airline industry in the country. President Yudhoyono even canceled a visit to the Netherlands because of the ban. And all this even when there was not a single Indonesian airliner flying to Europe, since Garuda Indonesia had stopped flying to Amsterdam late 2004 already.

Vice-President ends Bali airport depate Indonesia's Vice President Jusuf Kalla has apparently brought to an end the long-standing debate on the future of Bali's international airport by instructing that a Rp. 1.2 trillion (80 million euro) expansion must be completed by 2011. As reported by Bisnis Indonesia, the Vice President issued his instructions following an inspection visit to the airport over the Christmas/New Year period. He was accompanied on his visit by the Minister of Communications Jusman Syafii Djamal and the Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik.

Increasing problems for Phuket Air in UK Phuket Air logoA cut-price Thai holiday airline has been banned from flying to Britain after a safety scare during April in which passengers staged a rebellion when they saw fuel leaking from a wing. Phuket Air, which was used by several leading tour operators including Kuoni and Thomson Holidays, has had its operating licences suspended in Britain and its other European destination, the Netherlands.
