I have just arrived at 'Soekarno-Hatta International Airport of Jakarta', or short just 'the airport' or even shorter Soetta. Later this afternoon, at 16:20 local time, my flight should depart. When I got out of the taxi about half an hour ago I first bought a cup of iced tea at A&W. Not the best choice in the area, but I needed over an hour to reach the airport and had already spend an hour in the bus. Two hours without drinking is far from good for me.

One demonstration causes irritation, two demonstrations cause a traffic jam, three demonstrations is still quite normal in Jakarta. Four is okay as well, but the one who gave a permit for all thirteen demonstrations held today alone should be publicly humiliated by driving him through Jalan Thamrin at lunchtime a few times. Too stupid for words, all those demonstrations on just ONE single day in one of the most congested cities on this planet.

Indonesia's health system is failing to provide even the most basic care to vast swathes of the population, say specialists. Many who cannot afford doctors' fees often receive no treatment at all, while the wealthy fly abroad for a check-up. The system is plagued by under-funding, decentralization, lack of qualified staff, rising medical costs and outdated medical equipment, say insiders.

You will all probably have experience with it. You have just paid in the local supermarket and your change is a pile of banknotes that are just a few euro cents in value. If you are lucky enough, they will add a handful of aluminum coins with even less value than those uang kertas ('paper money') as well.

Every once in a while you stumble upon a sign that can be very unclear without additional text. The picture below has been on my mobile phone for quite some time because I even forgot I made it some while ago. With the article about the nail-sweeping police (see related articles below) evidence of warnings come in handy.
