Should Indonesia get a second Jakarta? President Yudhoyono is the third president that coined the idea of creating a new capital away from Jakarta because that city is choking with people, traffic jams and waste. He said that plans to develop a new capital were welcome, but the government itself does not lay focus to creating a new Jakarta elsewhere, that would be up to others.

Motive for murder on Zulkarnaen moves to suspected corruption The motive in the murder case on Nasrudin Zulkarnaen which caused the head of the corruption watchdog KPK, Antasari Azhar, to be put on non-active because he is a suspect in the case, has now changed from a love triangle to suspected corruption. There is some evidence that connects Antasari and Zulkarnaen with Sigid Haryo Wibisono in a possible corruption case at the Department of Social Affairs.

Malaysian marine police seize smuggled cigarettes from Indonesia The Malaysian marine police has seized some 110.000 packets of cigarettes which are believed to be smuggled to the country from Indonesia. The catch was made after a 15-minute high-speed sea chase, according to an official on Sunday. The contraband, with a value of some 200.000 euro, was seized after the smugglers made an attempt to escape in their cargo boat after they were ordered to stop for a routing inspection by patrolling marine personnel last Friday night.

3G services now becoming available Indonesia has become the latest country to have started implementing 3G networks. Telkomsel, an associate company of Singapore Telecommunications has now started offering high-speed wireless service for mobile phones. They have been testing this technology since sometime now and are ready to roll it for broader usage.

Ministery: Govt to hike fuel prices starting Tuesday Indonesia's government will implement long-planned fuel price increases starting Tuesday, including a 32% increase in the price of gasoline, Minister of Energy and Mines Purnomo Yusgiantoro told reporters late Monday. The price increases will result from a reduction in massive fuel subsidies that have crippled the government's ability to fund economic development and have prompted illegal imports of petroleum products, Purnomo told a special press briefing attended by top government ministers.
