Before you know it you are in another boarding room. In this case on the airport of Hang Nadim. Back to Jakarta indeed, but the Batavia Air plane has not arrived yet so the minutes of delay start to count already. In contrary to the airport of Jakarta, there are no boards with information about the recently introduced laws on the protection of passengers in case of delay. Most people don't know about the fact that they have the right to a snack and a drink if there is a delay indeed.

However the name might look like you are attending a game of soccer when you enter this piece of 'paradise on earth', it is not anything like it. It could at best be a nice confusion of words if you are smart enough, so you will not be caught for lying when you are telling in all honesty that you went to the stadium, but keep it in English then. The building that calls itself 'Stadium' is not just a club, it is a center of pleasure and entertainment, 24 hours a day, almost all days of the year.

It is October 8, 2008 in the morning when I prepare myself for a trip to the neighboring city of Solo. I do this because there are still some stamps missing in my albums. I do not collect points here, converted to money they are worth almost nothing and that 50 Rupiah discount on a bottle of iced tea of 3.500 Rupiah is something I am not waiting for as well. Those stamps however, I would like to have, so it occasionally occurs that I have to do some more effort for them than just the short trip to the local main post office downtown, at the other side of 'Malioboro'.

Two members from one family, mother Sumiarsih (59) and son Sugeng (43), were executed earlier this month after they had been on death row for an astonishing twenty years. They were sentenced to death in the 1980's over a murder on five members of their own family out of vengeance. After twenty years in prison, they names - and their story - reappeared in the news once again. The end of their story was clear for almost twenty years already, but it just did never materialize. Probably someone did not like cleaning his office, so these two death row candidates were only executed by firing squad earlier this month.

It is a completely random day at the end of August. Time to catch a plane to head for a new destination. Fortunately I know what is waiting for me on the other side. This is, for me personally, a lot less stress. I tend to arrange everything into the smallest details, and that from someone that tries to build a life in Indonesia. Yeah, I know, it sounds strange, but until now it was relatively easy for that matter. The bright red AirAsia plane touches down after about two hours of flight. The environment still is tropical and green. It is clouded, that is the only thing I notice directly. That means that here at least I can see what kind of weather it is, because that is a big difference than just two hours ago. Because Jakarta is always covered under a thick layer of brown smog and other lethal stuff.

However it wasn't Saturday for sure, but a Tuesday, still I had the feeling that I had to take my motorbike for a nice day of traveling. Where it would bring me? At least as far as Purworejo. To my amazement and some shame I had never been there before, so that became the primary target. I at least had to go there so I could honestly say that I had been there. Furthermore there were no plans, like usual. It was already late in the morning, so it was not really supposed to become a long trip. Maybe after Purworejo it was time to find my way back. That also depended on what I would find along the way of course. Seen the distance and the road conditions it was to take about one and a half hour to get there. My modest estimation.

It was a Saturday afternoon as any other, but sometimes I just feel the need to get out for a while. This is not always possible, but when there is a possibility and there are no other appointments in the agenda, then it just might happen that after lunch I decide to grab my stuff for a trip on the motorbike. It's not too far away, within the borders of the province of Yogyakarta, but at least I can get away from the daily life for a while. Helmet, keys and a wallet is enough. To store some of the memories I have I also bring a camera with me and within a matter of minutes I leave the area. Where do I go then? Ooh, I felt like having a drink in Wonosari, so that became my first destination, knowing that most likely it would be something in that direction, but that doesn't really matter.

Just over one week ago it all happened. At walking distance one person was killed, some were arrested and after that the party was over as quick as it started. It wasn't a criminal shootout and n drugs were found as well. It was nothing more than busting some terrorism-suspects by an anti-terror squad from the Indonesian police (Densus 88); they were simply overwhelmed in their hide-out. The one that tried to flea, was directly given some bullets and didn't survive the event. Seven others were arrested. In fact that could be the entire story, but it was just not to happen that way. It proved to be the start of what currently looks like a terror cell uncovered. Within two weeks after the first shooting several more police actions were held. Police is scarce with giving information, but in recent days is became clear that most likely a part of the Southeast Asian terror network Jemaah Islamiyah has been found.

On a late afternoon late last week I was to receive a short text message. I get a lot of them here as it is a cheap way to communicate here during the day, but this one was more special, or more important however you want to call it. It was from a foundation that has done emergency response after the earthquake in Central Java - today two months ago - as well as to tsunami-stricken Pangandaran just a while ago. They are still active in the area of Mblali, a village where people from other villages have found shelter after the earthquake. Only for the first time since 1999, I was about to make some boat trips. It is not something any government likes to make public, but the figures say it all: Indonesia is one of the world's largest exporters of sex workers, mainly children. They are employed in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Similarly, nearly half of the 400,000 estimated sex workers in Indonesia are children under 18 years old.

Let's just use the word "foreigner" in discussing mixed marriages as some people get so upset with the use of bule (it can be either a blatant insult or a harmless naive term) The "f" word also carriesmore general meanings; it embraces all types of non-Indonesians -- Caucasians, Africans, Chinese and other races. If you asked normal, well-educated, healthy state of mind people why theydecided to have a foreigner as their spouse, they probably would give you an acceptable answer. But who needs other people's approval or acceptance anyway? What are the acceptable terms? That people marry their partners based on mutual love despite the difference of their skin color? It's sweet, true, absolutely the smart and the right answer -- though it soundscorny.

Just recently I even had Indonesian television on the internet. I regularly listen and read reports and messages like they are presented over there. We all know there is no better result to get than the duo of "Gus Dur" ( Abdurrahman Wahid ) and Sukarnoputri ( Megawati ). Of course the Wiranto-army thought about a coup d'état, but they didn't, because they knew they would get a war between Indonesia and the rest of the world for sure. It only were the first democratic elections ever in Indonesia, and Indonesia is one of the most rich countries in the world. If there was nothing to get, the world wouldn't care more or less about Indonesia at all. . Our evolution learned us that one of the three magic words, God, Money and Health, won clearly. Nowadays I write in my letters and other stories God as well as Money with a capital "M". Money doesn't make happy, but is most important in this world. Above all it's not easy to enjoy your happieness without any money. . Pathetic Trading . In the tourist places like Kuta and Ubud ( Bali ), and undoubtedly somewhere else either, young women who are to lame to work can rent a baby to get money from the tourists, begging at tourists that is.
