BMKG: 'Total lunar eclipse to occur on April 15' The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that a total lunar eclipse will occur on April 15, 2014. "The eclipse can be observed from Indonesia, except in western Java and the western islands of Kalimantan and Sumatra," the BMKGs chief Andi Eka Sakya said here on Friday.

Indonesians flock to see partial solar eclipse Indonesians in several provinces on Monday viewed a partial solar eclipse, but thick clouds blocked the sighting for many others. The annular eclipse, in which the moon is on the far side of its orbit and can't completely cover the Sun, while not as dramatic as a total eclipse, attracted wide attention throughout the archipelago nation.

Indonesia plans massive land reforms The Indonesian government plans to launch a massive land reform campaign that will be completed before 2009, a newspaper reported Saturday. The government expects to distribute between three million and four million hectares of land to landless farmers throughout the country as part the national campaign.

Bird flu in Indonesia, one death every 2.5 days in May Indonesia averaged one human bird flu death every 2 1/2 days in May, putting it on pace to soon surpass Vietnam as the world's hardest-hit country. The latest death, announced Wednesday, was a 15-year-old boy whose preliminary tests were positive for the H5N1 virus. It comes as international health officials express growing frustration that they must fight Indonesia's stifling bureaucracy as well as the disease.

Indonesia declares war on corruption A joke among MNCs says that there is little point pursuing Asian contracts without a sizeable chequebook. Greasing palms is a normal part of doing business. Indonesia regularly comes off worst in transparency and corruption surveys, but the country’s trade and industry minister, Ms Rini Soewandi, says a determined drive is underway to weed out corruption.

Indonesia starting to gain from reforms Indonesia is beginning to reap the benefits of its economic reforms, Trade Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said here Tuesday, urging investors not to be distracted by violence wracking the country. In a briefing to business leaders, Pandjaitan said Indonesia had revised its growth forecasts upwards, as the benefits of reforms undertaken after the 1997 Asian financial crisis began to kick in.
