Long delays for Lion Air flights from Singapore It was a normal Wednesday last week and still it seemed that something was completely wrong with Lion Air. After they had received a stern warning from the Department of Transport, the came with so-called 'own' improvements, but the airline does not seem capable of letting their many flights depart on schedule.

Flying Merpati Nusantara? Are you sure? Figures from ticketindonesia.info show that the airline with the most canceled flights in their name is Merpati Nusantara. This Indonesian state-owned company, also partially owned by Garuda Indonesia, seems to have a peculiar way of conducting business; selling tickets, canceling flights and then wait for months to pay back the money paid for tickets on those canceled flight. At least it seems that way.

Westin to open 107-room hotel in Ubud Starwood Hotels & Resorts have formally announced they have singed an agreements with an Indonesian firm, PT Bina Buana Sarana, to develop and operate a new 107-room hotel - The Westin Ubud Resort and Spa. Indonesia targeting $8.4b from foreign tourists in 2011 Indonesia expects to earn $8.4 billion in tourism revenue this year, up from $7.6 billion last year, according to Tourism Minister Jero Wacik. Tourism suffers under ash from Mount Bromo volcano The volcanic activity of the Mount Bromo volcano in East Java province has caused heavy damage to the tourism industry in the area. The volcanic ash, emitted by the volcano, covers a large area where normally people make a living from tourists. The areas most heavily hit are Cemorolawang, Ngadisari and Probolinggo.

Malang Airport closed because of ash from Bromo volcano The directorate of Transport in Indonesia has ordered the immediate closure of the airport of Malang, Abdurahman Saleh. This is done because of the increasing amount of ash in the air - originating from the Mount Bromo volcano. The volcano, that has been erupting for several days now, is ejecting more ash into the skies. The airport is located about 25 kilometers from the crater of the volcano.
