Batam immigration office deports 121 foreign nationals Since early this year, immigration authorities in Batam, Riau Islands province, have deported 121 foreign nationals on various charges. "Most of the deportees were nationals of Malaysia, Singapore, and Myanmar," Head of the Batam Immigration Office Yudi Kurniadi stated here on Friday.

600 Indonesian overstayers in Jeddah detention center A total of 596 Indonesians without valid visas remain in the immigration detention center at Tarhil, Shumaysi, Jeddah, according to official information. Based on a press release from the Indonesian Consulate General Jeddah received by ANTARA News here, on Friday, 400 Indonesian were deported by the Saudi Arabia government.

6000 overstaying Indonesians repatriated from Saudi Arabia The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repatriated 6,017 Indonesians, who had exceeded their permitted length of stay in Saudi Arabia, while the remaining 4,757 were still lodged in the Shumaysi Immigration Shelter.

Demonstrate to get deported from Saudi Arabia! Indonesians that desperately want to find their way out from Saudi Arabia have found a new way to do so. A few hundred peaceful Indonesian demonstrators that organized a rally in front of the Indonesian consulate general in Jeddah were arrested for... well demonstrating peacefully and are now waiting to be deported. Most of the demonstrators stayed the country illegally after their haji or umroh or stayed there while their contract stopped in the hope of a better future there.

Two foreigners wanted as pedophiles extradited from Bali After sitting behind bars at Bali's Kerobokan prison for nearly eight months, a man on Interpol's Most Wanted List, 46 year-old Christian Burger, is now in France to face child sexual abuse charges. Burger, who has both French and Swiss citizenship, was placed on a plane to Paris on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, following the issuance of a letter agreeing to his extradition signed by Indonesia's President Yudhoyono. He has issued the needed letter last Monday, as was confirmed by Public Prosecutor I Ketut Sujaya, SH.

The Philippines deports terrorist's wife to Indonesia The desire of Istiada Oemar Sovie, alias Amenah Toha, the captured wife of Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist, to be deported to Indonesia, together with all of her children, will not be realized after all. Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Hermogenes Esperon, Jr. said the Philippine government will have to deport Toha on or before the end of this month even without all of her six children.

Govt expels US think tank expert A leading American expert on Indonesia's terrorist groups has been ordered out of the country after authorities accused her of violating visa regulations. Sidney Jones, however, had earlier said the national intelligence agency chief had complained that her International Crisis Group published false reports that had damaged the country's image. Jones said she was issued with a deportation order late Tuesday. It cited immigration violations, and was effective immediately, she said.

East Timor judge issues arrest warrant for Wiranto A judge in East Timor on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Indonesian presidential candidate Wiranto for crimes against humanity in the territory in 1999. "On 10 May, 2004, an international judge at the Special Panel for Serious Crimes in East Timor issued an arrest warrant for retired General Wiranto," prosecutors from the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) said in a statement. Wiranto was military chief when army-backed militiamen waged a bloody campaign against independence supporters in the then-Indonesian territory.

Prosecutors urge arrest of Wiranto Prosecutors in East Timor have intensified their push for the arrest of former Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) commander Wiranto, citing "voluminous" evidence that he failed to prevent crimes against humanity in the territory in 1999. The deputy general prosecutor for serious crimes last Thursday (19/3/04) filed a 92-page court brief to the UN-sponsored Serious Crimes Unit in support of its application for the issuance of an arrest warrant against Wiranto.

UN indicts Indonesian generals The UN has indicted the former Indonesian armed forces chief along with six other generals and East Timor's ex-governor for crimes against humanity during the territory's bloody independence vote in 1999. "The accused have all been charged with crimes against humanity for murder, deportation and persecution," the United Nations said in a statement issued in the East Timorese capital of Dili.

Members of the Penan tribe of northeastern Borneo know that Batu Lawi, a 2,000-m sheer limestone pinnacle, is a demon-haunted place to be avoided at all costs. To Bruno Manser, however, Batu Lawi represented everything he loved about the untouched forest of the region. He almost perished trying to reach its summit in 1988. As he told friends, he spent 24 hours hanging from a rope, unable to reach the rock face. Only a desperate swing brought him within grabbing distance of the rock.
