Jakarta governor: 'Victims the blame for sexual assaults' Women’s rights activists condemned Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo for his statement that shifted the blame for a spike in rape cases onto women wearing tight and revealing outfits. Fauzi said on Friday that women should not wear miniskirts when riding public transportation vehicles to avoid "any unwanted consequences".

Dangdut is no porn!? Traditional Indonesian dances and clothing like the koteka, which is used in eastern Indonesia, are not pornography. Because they are not, they also are not bothered by the anti-pornography law that was adopted by the Indonesian parliament in 2008. The constitutional court has decided this yesterday.

Monas park has new Las Vegas-style fountain A touch of glamor has been lent to the National Monument (Monas) park -- already home to deer and colored pigeons -- with the opening on Saturday night of a fountain that emulates the Las Vegas Bellagio fountains. With music and choreographed laser beams, the Rp 26 billion fountain, which is in the west of the park in Central Jakarta, accompanies Monas, the city's principal landmark, a 132-meter-high column topped with a glittering flame.

Hamzah: PPP not set on Islamic state United Development Party (PPP) leader Hamzah Haz asserted on Saturday his party did not want to turn Indonesia into an Islamic state. "The first principle (of Pancasila is belief in) one God, which is a declaration that Indonesia is a religious nation," he told thousands of supporters during a campaign rally at the Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
