KPK saves rp248.89 trillion in state funds The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said corruption courts have handled hundreds of corruption cases so far in the country. The anti graft agency which was established in 2004 had saved the state a total loss of Rp248.89 trillion from the cases, its deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto said.

Two Taiwanese arrested for drugs trafficking Indonesian authorities have arrested two Taiwanese nationals for trying to smuggle nearly seven kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine into the country, local media reports said Sunday. The two, identified as Kuo Ting Liu, 23, and Huang Yu Lum, 26, were arrested on Friday by custom officers at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International airport, soon after they arrived on a China Airlines flight from Hong Kong.

Police confiscates 410.000 ecstacy pills Yesterday afternoon the Jakarta police and Jakarta harbor police have confiscated 410.000 ecstasy pills. The drugs are valued at some 41 billion Rupiah (3 million euro) and were confiscated from a Malaysian named Ong Seng Chye. The illegal goods were found in a rented house in Jalan Janur Elok Blok QG1, Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta. The arrest and confiscation followed after residents made reports to the police about this. There were reports that there were 500 ecstasy pills.

Fuel protests turn violent Protests against the fuel price hike again turned violent here as university students taking part in two separate demonstrations clashed with police. Students from the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) and Jayabaya University, both in East Jakarta, became involved in running battles with the police in front of their respective universities, resulting in at least five people being injured.

Bunker search leads police to drill into Tommy's home Using drills and jack hammers until late on Monday night, the police were still trying to open an alleged underground bunker below the residence of fugitive Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, despite President Abdurrahman Wahid's claim that Tommy was hiding in a former general's house. "We need special equipment to continue drilling into the floor of Tommy's fitness center. We have gone a little beyond 20 centimeters, and we'll keep on going until we reach it," Comr. Rycko Amelza Daniel of the City Police Detectives unit told The Jakarta Post on Monday night.
