Fatahillah Museum closed until 2014 The Fatahillah Museum of History in Kota Tua, the old city of Jakarta, will be closed for two years to allow for conservation work to be carried out on the badly damaged museum complex. Borobudur temple to be reopened later this month Earlier this year the Borobudur temple complex near the town of Magelang in Central Java was closed due to an eruption of the Mount Merapi volcano. Soon, this complex should be reopened to the public, at least partly. Reopening is scheduled for later this month.

Alert status Bromo volcano lowered to level 3 The alert status for the Mount Bromo volcano in East Java province has been lowered from level 4 to level 3 earlier today. This decision was made because the volcano has showed further decreasing activity, especially compared to earlier this month. The volcano is still very active and an ash cloud can still be seen over the active crater.

Ash from small Bromo eruption blows towards Malang The Mount Bromo volcano in the area of Probolinggo, East Java Province is still active. An ash cloud caused by one of the small eruptions of the volcano earlier this morning is now making it's way to the city of Malang. "There were several small eruptions earlier this morning. The ash clouds from these eruptions are headed for the city of Malang," said the head of the Crisis Center of the Department of Public Health, Mudjiharto.

A trip to Cagar Alam Pangandaran Still coughing from the drive home the night before I woke up quite early in the morning after being quite reluctant to get up this early. It was finally dry by now, but it kept on raining for quite some time especially for this time in May. Most people here do not complain about it though; although roads are not repaired yet the newly planted rice and such are growing rapidly in return.
