Nine injured after day of clashes in Jakarta Several clashes erupted between protesters and the police during a rally decrying the Bank Century bailout outside the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday, leaving nine demonstrators injured. Most of the injured were caused by thrown objects like stones.

Garuda Indonesia plans to seek government bailout PT Garuda Indonesia plans to seek a government bailout to keep flying after record fuel costs and mounting debt caused the state-owned national airline to post its first loss in three years. The airline is preparing the request, State Enterprise Minister Sugiharto, who oversees Indonesia's state-owned companies, said in an Aug. 5 interview in Jakarta. "We are about to decide whether we need to help.''

Megawati, Ministers trapped as students surround palace Vice President Megawati Sukarnoputri and ministers who just finished a cabinet meeting led by the embattled President Abdurrahman Wahid in presidential residence complex apparently trapped at midday on Monday as they could not leave the compound surrounded by thousands of anti-Wahid students.
