Protests over land acquisition Semarang - Solo toll road Acquisition of land needed for the construction of the Semarang - Solo toll road in the village of Sarono in the Kalirejo subdistrict in Central Java, has lead to protests of local residents. Six of them refuse to agree to a payment scheme. One of the residents, Benny, told that he would not agree with a payment of just 500.000 Rupiah (36 euro) per square meter, because that was too little.

Garuda finalizing acquisition of Star Air Unsuccessful in their bid to reach an agreement that would allow the purchase of 100% of the shares of Linus Airways, the national air carrier Garuda Indonesia is reported to be near finalizing an agreement to purchase Star Air. Both Linus Airways and Star Air ceased operations in 2008. Garuda is seeking to purchase the operating licenses of an existing Indonesian carrier as a "fast track" solution to the lack of an airline operating license and other licenses needed for its low-cost subsidiary Citilink.

Residents resist extension of North Bali airport runway After an impasse lasting several months, citizens whose residences are blocking plans to extend the runway of the Letkol Wisnu Sumberkima Airport in Buleleng are reported to be deadlocked on any agreement for compensation that would allow the demolishment of their homes and the expansion of the current runway. According to BisnisBali, some citizens continue to hold out for a more generous pay-out before agreeing to allow the project to proceed.

About 57,000 houses built in tsunami-hit Aceh in past two years Donor institutions and the Aceh- Nias Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency ( BRR Aceh-Nias) have so far built 57,000 units of permanent housing for earthquake and tsunami victims in Indonesia's Aceh and Nias regions in the past two years.

-Around 22,000 units of housing for victims of the disasters in the two regions are expected to be completed by the end of March next year, Antara news agency quoted BRR Aceh-Nias chief Kuntoro Mangkusubroto as saying on Saturday in Banda Aceh, capital of Aceh province.

Indonesia's Promotion, Investment Coordinating Board director Ikmal Lukman said Malaysia's investment in Indonesia had grown in terms of number and value of projects soon after the crisis.

2005 oil and gas well drillings fall below its target Indonesia, Southeast Asia's biggest oil producer, drilled 62 oil and gas wells this year, below the government target, because of higher costs of oil rigs, a government official said. Indonesia had wanted companies such as PT Pertamina, BP Plc and ConocoPhillips and Total SA to drill as many as 81 wells this year to increase the country's oil and gas reserves, Kardaya told reporters today in Bandung, West Java.

Bajaj to set up plants in Indonesia, Brazil India’s second largest bike maker Bajaj Auto is setting up its first plant outside India in Indonesia, near Jakarta, chairman Rahul Bajaj announced at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) here on Saturday. Another operation would take off in Brazil in 18 months’ time, Mr Bajaj said. He also indicated to shareholders that free cash in the balance sheet will have to be used in product development, R&D and global forays.

Philip Morris raises stake in Sampoerna to 97 pct Philip Morris International Corp said it has raised its stake in Indonesia's third largest 'kretek' (clove) cigarette maker, PT HM Sampoerna, to 97 pct following an irrevocable tender offer for an additional 57 pct. The tender was launched a month ago and is due to close today.

During the quarter, Sampoerna sold 11.3 billion sticks of cigarettes, up 14% from 9.9 billion a year earlier.

Philip Morris offers to buy Sampoerna for US$5.2 billion Marlboro maker Philip Morris on Monday said it is offering US$5.2 billion for one of heavy-smoking Indonesia's largest cigarette firms to expand its share of one of the world's biggest markets. The US firm agreed to acquire a 40 percent stake in Sampoerna for 10,600 rupiah a share -- 20 percent higher than the closing price of 8,850 last Thursday -- and said it wanted to buy the remainder for the same amount.

City buys up slums to turn into park In an effort to increase the number of green spaces in densely populated areas, the City Parks Agency plans to add six more community parks to the existing 54. The agency has been acquiring plots of land in six locations in Kemayoran district, Central Jakarta, and Meruya district in West Jakarta. "We have finished the land acquisition in three locations and are still negotiating the acquisition of three other sites," agency head Sarwo Handhayani said at City Hall on Monday.

Flyovers, underpasses proposed to ease traffic congestion In a bid to ease traffic congestion in the capital, the South Jakarta Mayoralty proposed on Monday the construction of three flyovers and another two underpasses in different areas of the city. Speaking during a visit by City Council members on Monday, mayor Abdul Mufti said the projects would cost the city administration around Rp 185 billion (about US$19.47 million) and could be completed within two years.
