Moderate earthquake hits Papua province A moderate earthquake rocked Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua on Tuesday, sending panicked residents into the streets, but there were no reports of damage or injuries, officials said. The magnitude-5.9 earthquake struck at 12:28 p.m. (0328 GMT) and was centered about 147 kilometers (91 miles) south of Jayapura, the capital of Papua province, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Cholera claims 151 in Papua province A cholera outbreak in Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua has killed 151 people in the last month and has made another 3 200 ill, says a health ministry spokesperson on Friday. Sumardi said: "The latest report we received today shows that the death toll has reached 151." He said at least 3 200 people have been affected by the disease since early last month.

Bad weather hinders famine relief in Papua No relief has arrived as yet for starving Papuans, after bad weather prevented on Saturday the delivery of food aid and medicines to a famine-stricken area of Papua. Only small amounts of food and medicines trickled into the famine-affected area of Yahukimo regency, while most of the aid was still piling up in Wamena, including assistance that had been brought by a military transport plane dispatched earlier from Jakarta.

Clashes kill 12 in Papua province At least 12 people have been killed in clashes between security forces and separatist fighters in Indonesia's troubled Papua province. Eight separatists were killed and several injured after troops raided a camp in the Wamena region on Wednesday morning, an army officer told El-Shinta radio. "We launched the raid at 5am and confiscated weapons from them... It is suspected that they had been planning to carry out attacks on a regency office and local military headquarters," Colonel Agus Mulyadi said.

Musiran told RCTI private television network on Sunday evening that out of the 30 killed, 24 were migrant workers. Besides, 48 others were injured in the rampage.
