US to grant F-16 aircraft to Indonesia The US government will provide a grant of 24 units of F-16 fighter aircraft to Indonesia, US ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel said here Thursday. "The United States will provide the combat aircraft as an aid in an effort to improve the military equipment of the Indonesian government," he said.

US lifts travel warning for Indonesia The United States has lifted its warning against travel in Indonesia for the first time since the year 2000 when churches were bombed across the country. The US State Department has announced the lifting of its travel warning for Indonesia "after determining that the security climate in the country no longer warrants such a warning".

Muslim protestors pelt US Embassy About 400 hardline Muslim protestors attacked the US Embassy in Jakarta with rocks, tomatoes and eggs, claiming that the United States was on a mission to destroy Islam. In speeches, members of the Islamic Defenders Front, a Muslim vigilante group, said that US President George W. Bush had supported the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in European newspapers.

Indonesia welcomes capture of Saddam Indonesia has welcomed news of Saddam Hussein's capture by US forces, saying his arrest should help Iraqis to govern their own nation. "The capture of Saddam Hussein is long overdue," Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa was quoted as saying by Reuters. "It is our hope that his capture will help speed up the process of reconciliation and the transition toward a democratic government of Iraq, where sovereignty is restored in the hands of the Iraqi people," he added.
