Jakarta proposes to construct three underpasses The Jakarta provincial administration plans to build underground crossing tunnels in several locations in the capital city to ease off pedestrian traffic at street crossings, Governor Joko Widodo stated here on Friday. "We will build tunnels in three locations. Hopefully, the construction can start within this year," the governor noted.

Jakarta monorail project to be completed in 2017: Adhi Karya Publicly traded construction company PT Adhi Karya Tbk said construction of Jakartas monorail project linking Bekasi-Cawang and Cibubur-Cawang will start in 2015 to be completed in 2017. Construction of the Jakarta Link Transportation (JLT) will start in April , 2015 although it has yet to wait for the presidential regulation on monorail.

Prices have come down by one million Rupiah, which is a about 69 euro. Of course these phones should only be used with a Telkomsel 12 month contract. Indonesia to provide phone links to all villages by end 2008 The government is preparing telephone links to all villages in the country by the end of 2008, told Minister of Communication Muhammad Nuh on Tuesday. Some 38,000 villages - over half of the total of 70,000 - still don't have telephone links according to the minister during a lunch with foreign reporters. "We start with 18,000 villages for 2007 and the rest, 20,000, in 2008," he said.

Telkomsel, an associate company of Singapore Telecommunications has now started offering high-speed wireless service for mobile phones. Indonesia drops plan to raise phone tariff The Indonesian government will not raise charges on fixed-line phones due to concerns about low consumer purchasing power despite a planned hike to take effect in January next year, an official has said. "Our economic condition is not that conducive. This is a result of the low purchasing power of the people and the recent natural disasters," the Communications and Information Ministry's director general of post and telecommunications, Gatot Dewa was quoted Tuesday by The Jakarta Post daily as saying. "Therefore, the fixed-line telephone rates will not be increased."

A handful of tickets, 2 For the second time I look back at a handful of tickets that is in a box or plastic bag in my room. They are laying there, some of them already for about seven years now. Time to give them some attention and have a talk about hem. This time some attention to tickets of Taman Safari in Prigen, near Malang in east Java. Some attention as well to the parking tickets craze that seems to rage in Indonesia. Sometimes it's kind of funny where you will get tickets for however.

Satellite launch delayed for 8th time The launch of Indonesian PT Telkom's satellite scheduled for Nov. 14 will be postponed again mainly due to a ground equipment problem, Telkom General Director Arwin Rasyid said Sunday. The launch has been delayed due to technical problem in gasoline launch table, Arwin said at the Telkom's satellite main controller station in Cibinong, West Java, Antara News Agency reported.

Indonesia plans massive reconstruction in tsunami-hit Aceh The Indonesian government said Wednesday it has made up its mind to spend the next five years rebuilding infrastructure in many parts of Aceh Province where tidal waves triggered by a powerful earthquake swept through on Sunday. Market drops over fear Susilo may lose The Jakarta stock market fell on Thursday, with some analysts saying an key factor was fears "market favorite" Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono might fail to win the president's job. The Jakarta Composite Index ended lower by 1.54 percent or 11.92 points, to 759.742, on volume of 1.72 billion shares traded worth Rp 908.78 billion (US$101 million). Stock analyst Fendi A. Telkom to build underwater cable link to Malaysia Indonesia's state-owned Telkom has signed a contract to build an undersea telecommunications cable link to Malaysia. The Jakarta Post reports Telkom signed the contract on Friday with a consortium comprising Telekom Malaysia Berhad and NEC Corporation. The cable will run for 160 kilometres between Dumai in Indonesia's Riau province and Melaka, Malaysia.

Local phone rates to rise by up to 28% Independent experts criticized on Wednesday the government's decision to allow the country's fixed-line operators to raise local telephone rates by up to 28 percent. Sudaryatmo of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) said "the government is not sensitive enough to realize that the phone rates hike will simply be another burden on the public." Internet users expected to double to 4 million in 2001 The number of Internet users in Indonesia will double to four million in 2001, even if e-commerce is only picking up slowly due to problems with online payments, the Indonesian Association of Internet Service Providers (APJII) says. APJII Chairman Heru Nugroho explained that his optimistic projection was based on the rapid growth of the Internet industry in Asia, including Indonesia, over the past two years.

KabelVision hooks up with five Net Service Providers KabelVision, the first TV cable and broadband Internet network provider in Indonesia, will forge alliances with five more Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Jakarta next month to expand its coverage of broadband internet services. Deputy director Srihanto Nugroho told reporters on Thursday that the move was expected to encourage more Internet users in the capital to switch from using the dial-up telephone connection to the Internet to KabelVision's high speed fiber optic connection.
