Sriwijaya Air opens route Pekanbaru - Batam Sriwijaya Air has commenced flights on the route Pekanbaru - Batam - Pekanbaru on November 20, 2012. This daily flight departs from Pekanbaru at 14:25 local time and from Batam at 15:50 local time. With this new daily flight, Sriwijaya Air realises it's desire to grow in short haul regional flights.

Crew that landed plane at wrong airport grounded The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has grounded the pilot and co-pilot of Sriwijaya Airlines flight SJ021 that landed at the wrong airport in Padang, West Sumatra on October 13, 2012. Bisnis.com reports that the flight landed at the Tabing Padang Airport in Padang when, in fact, it was scheduled to land at the nearby Minangkabau International Airport.

Sriwijaya Air opens business class and new routes Indonesian airline Sriwijaya Air has officially announced that newly delivered Boeing planes will be used to fly on a few new restinations in their route network. Lion Air worst in delayed flights Lion Air has been ranked the worst in the number of delayed flights in the first six months of this year, scoring 70.16 percent in on-time performance, the government says. Garuda Indonesia topped the performance with 86.22 percent, followed by Sriwijaya Air with 76.12 and Indonesia Air Asia with 72.90 percent.

The airliner will then also offer full service flights, like Garuda is doing at the moment. The first visible step is the replacfement of all Boeing 737-200 planes for Boeing 737-500 planes.

Lion Air opens Jakarta - Lampung route Starting from August 24, Lion Air will operate a daily flight from Jakarta to Lampung and back again. Long delays for Lion Air flights from Singapore It was a normal Wednesday last week and still it seemed that something was completely wrong with Lion Air. After they had received a stern warning from the Department of Transport, the came with so-called 'own' improvements, but the airline does not seem capable of letting their many flights depart on schedule.

Lion Air adds many new flights and routes The Indonesian airline Lion Air is currently working hard to expand it's already large network. During the month of May, four new routes will be opened while 18 existing routes will see their frequencies increased from today's levels. Expansion of their network can be noticed throughout the country.

Malang Airport closed because of ash from Bromo volcano The directorate of Transport in Indonesia has ordered the immediate closure of the airport of Malang, Abdurahman Saleh. This is done because of the increasing amount of ash in the air - originating from the Mount Bromo volcano. The volcano, that has been erupting for several days now, is ejecting more ash into the skies. The airport is located about 25 kilometers from the crater of the volcano.

Sriwijaya Air skids off runway at Makassar airport A Boeing 737-200 belonging to Indonesian airline Sriwijaya Air has skidded of the runway at the Sultan Hasanuddin in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The accident happened around 14:30 local time yesterday after a tire blew out upon landing. All passengers and crew were safe and the plane was evacuated shortly after the landing.

Higher taxes for older planes in the pipeline Minister of Transportation, Jusman Syafi Djamal, has told the press that he is considering asking for higher tax rates for older planes operated by Indonesian air carriers as an incentive to drive a modernization of the country's air armada. Behind the Minister's plan is the view that older aircraft are more frequently involved in "safety incidents" in Indonesia and have generally poor operating efficiencies.

Flooding affects planes, trains in Semarang It was a bright Sunday in Semarang but the floodwaters from three days of heavy rain were still inundating most parts of the city, with Ahmad Yani Airport and Tawang railroad station still not fully back to normal. Garuda Indonesia's general manager in Semarang, Arjo K. Bardijan, said on Sunday that the airline was still transporting passengers scheduled to depart from Semarang to Adi Sumarmo Airport in the neighboring city of Surakarta.

Flights disrupted as haze worsens in Jambi Increasing smoke and haze from bush and forest fires in the past week around Jambi city have disrupted flights and led to respiratory problems among residents. M. Sidabutar, the head of Sultan Thaha Airport Management, said on Monday that the worsening haze had decreased pilot visibility so many flights in and out of Jambi had to be delayed. "We have informed Jakarta and other airports in order to delay flights to Jambi as the haze thickened this morning," said Sidabutar.
