Floods inundate 146 villages in Karawang Heavy flooding inundated as many as 146 villages in 25 subdistricts in Karawang, West Java, following heavy rainfall over the region in the last several days. On Monday, Head of Karawang Social Affairs and Disaster Mitigation Office Rochuyun A. Santosa stated that the floods have become an overwhelming disaster as 25 out of the 30 subdistricts in Karawang have been inundated.

Northern main road Java blocked by floodwaters The northern coastal road from Jakarta to Surabaya, popularly known as Pantura, has been completely blocked by floodwaters in Pamanukan in the district of Subang. The fly-over in the heart of Pamanukan has been flooded on both sides and is submerged in about one meter of water. This main road is economically very important for transport over land.

A double tracked Pantura almost a reality An infrastructure project that was started back in the Dutch colonial era, will hopefully be rounded up in the coming years. What project took almost a century to be completed? The construction of a double tracked - now it's only a single track for the biggest part - railroad connection between Jakarta and Surabaya through the northern lowlands of Java Island.

Back to Yogya: twelve hours by bus How to get to Yogyakarta? Of course the plane is a good solution from Jakarta, but we didn't want to. My plan was to catch the bus in the morning, so we would arrive in Yogya in the evening, but as we found out there were no morning buses departing for Yogya from Cikarang, so we just took the bus departing in the evening, because we wanted to go to Yogya anyway.

Main road over Sulawesi blocked by landslide between Poros and Pantura The Trans-Sulawesi highway between Poros and Pantura (the northern part of the road) which forms the main connection between the provinces of Gorontalo and Central Sulawesi has been cut of because of landslides at several points. The landslides occurred after heavy rains hit the district of North Gorontalo in the past few days.

Java's roads packed with holiday travelers Driyanto, a 42-year-old man from Jakarta, left the capital at 4 a.m. on Friday for Banyumas municipality in Central Java. He arrived in Cirebon, West Java, 12 hours later. The trip normally takes about four hours. "I arrived here at around 4 p.m., meaning it took 12 hours from Jakarta," Driyanto told The Jakarta Post while taking a travel break in Cirebon.

Lebaran transportation team to alter traffic routes The Lebaran Transportation Team 2003, decided that on November 21, 2003, or minus 4 days (4 days before Idul Fitri), all means of public passenger and cargo transportation from the East to Pantura (northern coastal route) in W.Java, will have to use the southern route.
