At least 11 killed after landslide in Sulawesi A landslide killed at least 11 people and injured 18 others on Tuesday in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi, local media reported while quoting police sources. According to the state-run Antara news agency, the landslide buried employees of a local oil palm company in Bunta village of Sulawesi's Morowali district, where the evacuation of victims is still underway.

20 killed, 52 missing in Sulawesi landslide Twenty people have been killed and 52 others were still missing after a landslide and flood hit areas in the province of Central Sulawesi on Sunday evening, the Disaster Management Agency told Tuesday. The disaster in Batu Bare and Tomboyali districts in the regency of Morowali had destroyed over one hundred houses, including transport facilities, according to officials.

No reprieve for Poso 3, officials say Prosecutors insisted Sunday the death sentence for three men convicted for their role in the sectarian conflict in Poso, Central Sulawesi, would be carried out soon despite mounting calls for a stay of execution. Central Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office head M. Jahja Sibe said technical difficulties were holding up the execution of Fabianus Tibo, 60, Marinus Riwu, 54, and Dominggus da Silva, 43, three Christians who were convicted of masterminding a series of attacks on Muslims in Poso in 2000.

Execution of Poso convicts postponed The execution of three Christians convicted of masterminding the 2001 sectarian conflict in Poso, Central Sulawesi, has been postponed for "technical reasons", the Attorney General's Office said Saturday. The Attorney General's Office had earlier announced that the three would be executed at the end of March after their plea for presidential clemency was rejected.

Police to charge Poso attackers under antiterrorism law National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar said on Friday that all the attackers in Central Sulawesi regencies of Morowali and Poso would be charged under the antiterrorism law. Da'i said that although the attackers were motivated by vengeance from past conflicts, the attack had violated Antiterrorism Law No 15/2003.

Security forces hunting Poso attack mastermind A joint police and military force are pursuing Mohamadong alias Ndang accused of masterminding a series of fresh attacks in Poso and the neighboring regency of Morowali, Central Sulawesi. Sources at Poso Police Station said on Monday that Ndang was a resident of Ampana subdistrict in Poso but he often moved to other places. Security forces have been tracking him after he was spotted in Lembo subdistrict, Morowali, they added.

Poso calm as more troops arrive Calm returned on Monday to Poso regency, Central Sulawesi, after around 300 paramilitary police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel arrived in the religiously divided town. Residents in the attack-hit villages of Saatu, Pantangolemba and Pinedapa resumed their daily activities. No further violence was reported after Sunday's dawn attacks there by masked gunmen, who killed at least nine people.
