The volcanic flow took place at 7.30 am local time as far as 2 km in the direction north of the mountain in parts of Jorong Limo Suku, Nagari Sungaipuar in Agam regency.

Increasing volcanic activity after Sumatra earthquakes A twin earthquake that killed over 70 people in western Sumatra may have triggered heightened activity at three volcanoes according to experts. Geologists said that sensors on the slopes of three volcanoes - Talang, Tandikat and Marapi - have above-average activity since the 6.3 and 6.1 earthquakes. "We usually need about a month to observe whether the earthquake could trigger an eruption," said Gede Suantika, official from Indonesia's volcanology institute.

Java shaken by quake; 115 deaths reported A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook central Java in Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site. At least 115 people died, Agence Press-France reported. The quake, centered about 26 kilometers (16 miles) south of Yogyakarta, struck at 5:54 a.m. local time, USGS said. Many houses and buildings collapsed and the tremors were felt in nearby cities as well on the north coast of the island, Agence France-Presse said. No tsunami has been reported from the quake.

Eight other vulcanoes with higher activity Around 25,000 people fled their homes in western Sumatra yesterday after a series of volcanic eruptions from Mount Talang. Eight other large volcanoes in Indonesia are also showing significant increases in activity, raising alarm in the earthquake-prone region. The most active has been Mt Talang, 40 miles east of Padang, the largest city on Sumatra's west coast, sending thick, grey ash and smoke half a mile into the air on Tuesday.
