Flooding submerges 80 houses in Benenain Heavy rain had triggered widespread flooding in the regency of Malaka of East Nusatenggara. At least 80 houses in the village of Umatoos in the the sub-district of Malaka Barat were inundated forcing the people to move to safer areas.

Floods hit Timor island Flash floods hit five districts on Timor Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, following heavy rains over the past one week, a local official said. The floods swept away 47 houses and damaged around 126 others, Tini Thadeus, the head of NTT`s disaster mitigation agency, said here on Tuesday.

Five new destinations for Lion Air The subsidiary of Lion Air - Wings Air - has opened up five new routes to several smaller destinations in central Indonesia. The new flights are to the destinations of Kolaka, Maumere, Ende, Natuna and Malaka (Malaysia). These routes are all flown by brand new ATR 72-500 planes and are flown from Jakarta or Denpasar.

3.5 kilograms of heroin seized in port of Dumai The customs in Dumai have seized some 3.5 kilograms of heroin from Malaysia bound for Indonesia. The total value of the illegal drugs is estimated at some 6.5 billion Rupiah (580,000 euro). The drugs were seized after a 45-year-old woman was arrested after she arrived from Malaka in Malaysia with the Indomal Ekspress V.

Government told to reconsider road project in Leuser park Legislators urged the government on Tuesday to abandon its plan to continue construction on a Rp 1 trillion (US$1.2 million) highway cutting through Aceh province in Sumatra. "We do not see any urgency to build the road, at the cost of destroying the Leuser ecosystem," said legislator Zaenal Arifin on Tuesday, echoing what environmentalists said recently.

Tension grips Malaka after brawl Tension was still evident in Malaka, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Sunday evening following a brawl between two groups of residents in the early hours on Sunday, a report said. At least one person was severely injured in the incident, which involved stone-pelting and Molotov cocktail throwing, Metro TV reported.

Major celebrations are underway in the Netherlands to commemorate the Dutch East India Company's (VOC) 400th anniversary this year. This commemoration is especially targeted at Holland's younger generation, to instill a sense of pride in their history. Floods kill at least 38 people in East Nusa Tenggara Floods following two days of rain in East Nusa Tenggara have killed at least 38 people and swept through hundreds of homes, Antara said on Thursday. In its evening news broadcast on Thursday, state television TVRI quoted data issued by the provincial administration as saying that 125 people had died and no less than 160 houses severely damaged in the floods.
