Serial child rapist faces 15-year prison term An Indonesian man is facing a 15-year prison term for a series of child rapes carried out in the island of Bali, prosecutors said Wednesday. Mochammad Davis Suharto, also known as Codet, which translates to Scarface, 30, allegedly raped five elementary school girls in Bali, aged 9 to 12, between February and April, as well as another six girls, aged 5 to 11, in Batam, Riau Islands.

Bengawan Solo river to be dammed The government has planned to build a Rp 800 billion (67million euro) dam named Bendung Gerak Sembayat in Bengawan Solo river, located between Lamongan and Gresik of East Java, says a minister. Djoko said the dam would be built immediately to counter floods during rainy season.

Seven dead in restaurant fire Kedoya, Jakarta A fire that hit a small restaurant selling soto lamongan in Jalan Pilar Mas, Kedoya, West Jakarta, has killed seven people. The fire started at around 04:40 local time. The fire was eventually put out when 13 fire trucks had arrived at the location. A spokesperson of the fire department confirmed that there were seven people killed in the fire.

New Suramadu bridge built to last a century The newly built Suramadu bridge between the city of Surabaya on the island of Java and the island of Madura is expected to last a century. The lifespan is mainly based on the volume of traffic that will use the bridge. According to the head of the executing body for the Suramadu bridge, Akhmad Ghofar Ismail, the bridge is able to accept an incredible increase in volume of traffic. Furthermore a twin bridge can always be built if needed.

Over 20,000 displaced by floods in Eastern Java More than 20,000 people have fled homes after floods hit Eastern Java since Feb. 23, the National Disaster Management Agency reported. Consecutive days of downpours have triggered Bengawan Solo river passing through Central and East Java overflowed and submerged more than five thousand houses and forced the residents to took shelters in higher grounds, spokesman of the agency Priyadi Kardono said.

Floods hit Lamongan city Hundreds of houses in the city of Lamongan in eastern Java, were flooded earlier today. The floods were caused by two dams of a river nearby the village of Gedang broke. The dams broke because of heavy rainfall that occurred yesterday evening. This time the flood was worse than previous times the city has been flooded. The water levels reached as high as half a meter. The victims which had to evacuate themselves from their homes had to find place in homes of relatives and friends to shelter.
