Potential geothermal reserves found in Kolaka The energy and mineral resources ministry said a potential geothermal reserve has been found in the district of Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The geothermal reserve was found near nickel mines in Kolaka by the ministry`s researchers, Made Suantika, the head of soil shifting and mitigation division at the ministry, said here.

New route and added flights for Lion Air Indonesian airliner Lion Air has once more announced it will open new routes. They will start flying on the route Luwuk - Makassar - Luwuk with a daily flight starting on January 18. The flights will be executed by daughter company Wings Air. Departure from Luwuk is at 06:00 local time, departure from Makassar at 15:50 local time.

Bus plunges into ravine, 2 passengers killed A bus carrying 20 people plunged into a 80-meter-deep ravine in North Kolaka district, Southeast Sulawesi, early on Tuesday, killing two passengers. The bus developed an engine malfunction when it was trying to negotiate a steep road at Walasiho village, North Kolaka district, eyewitnesses said.

At least 12 dead after ferry sinks in eastern Indonesia At least twelve people have been killed and an unknown number of people remain missing after a ferry boat sank in eastern Indonesia on early Saturday morning, officials said.

Five new destinations for Lion Air The subsidiary of Lion Air - Wings Air - has opened up five new routes to several smaller destinations in central Indonesia. The new flights are to the destinations of Kolaka, Maumere, Ende, Natuna and Malaka (Malaysia). These routes are all flown by brand new ATR 72-500 planes and are flown from Jakarta or Denpasar.

Flooding in Central Sulawesi Heavy rain since last week has inundated at least 3,600 houses and forced 14,400 people from 10 sub-districts in the Indonesian province of central Sulawesi to leave their homes. The most affected areas are Talise (Palu Selatan), Kolaka (Palu Barat) and Maesa (Palu Utara).

Depok, Tangerang named 'dirtiest' cities The government announced a list of the country's dirtiest cities for the first time on Friday in a bid to encourage municipal administrations to clean up their acts, and their heavily polluted urban areas. Previous governments had only made the names of the cleanest cities public.

House approves creation of 24 new regencies A plenary meeting of the House of Representatives endorsed on Thursday 13 bills on the creation of 24 new regencies in 13 provinces into law. The 24 regencies approved include Kolaka Utara, Kolaka Utara, Bombana and Wakatobi in the province of Southeast Sulawesi, Sumbawa Barat (West Nusa Tenggara) and Lingga (Riau). Also, are Tojo Una-una (Central Sulawesi), Melawai and Sekadau (West Kalimantan), Minahasa Utara (North Sulawesi), and Supiori (Papua).
