Chief warden replaced after riot at prison in Bali The chief warden of Bali`s Kerobokan penitentiary, Bowo Nariwono, as well as the prison`s chief of security, Anang Khuzaini, were replaced following recent riots at the prison. The positions were transferred at about 9.30am on Friday during a short ceremony at the official residence of the chief warden.

Prisoners riot at Kerobokan Bali jail Prisoners at the notorious Kerobokan jail on the Indonesian island of Bali have rioted after attacking a warden and an anti-narcotics official who were trying to nab a suspected drug dealer. Dozens of inmates went on the rampage at the Kerobokan prison in the early hours before police and prison guards quelled the unrest.

Schappelle Corby goes crazy in Bali prison Australian drug smuggler Schappelle Corby is going crazy in Balinese prison where she has to fulfill a 20-year jail term after trying to smuggle several kilograms of marijuana from Bali to Australia. In a psychiatric report she is said to be 'hanging by a thread', and should be reviewed as soon as possible for being sent home to Australia to finish her sentence there. An Australian psychiatrist was allowed to visit Corby last month.

Two foreigners wanted as pedophiles extradited from Bali After sitting behind bars at Bali's Kerobokan prison for nearly eight months, a man on Interpol's Most Wanted List, 46 year-old Christian Burger, is now in France to face child sexual abuse charges. Burger, who has both French and Swiss citizenship, was placed on a plane to Paris on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, following the issuance of a letter agreeing to his extradition signed by Indonesia's President Yudhoyono. He has issued the needed letter last Monday, as was confirmed by Public Prosecutor I Ketut Sujaya, SH.

Bali's longest staying guests prove hard to handle Bali Police officials' attempts to undertake a drugs and narcotics sweep of Kerobokan prison on Thursday, June 19, 2009, collapsed when angry inmates refused the order of armed police personnel to return to their cells. According to local press reports, some of the prisoners verbally abused and threw stones at the contingent of three truckloads of armed police drawn from the police's mobile brigade together with narcotics and intelligence officers from the Bali police headquarters.

More executions likely to follow in Indonesia Bali Post reports that the execution last week of the three Bali Bombers will serve to accelerate the date of the execution of those members of the "Bali Nine" sitting on death row in Baliís Kerobokan prison. A Junior Chief State Prosecutor, Abdul Hakim Ritonga, told the press in Jakarta said that orders have been issued to create a formal list of all those on death row, a list that is expected to be in hand before the end of the current year.

The ministry says Corby has only served four years of a 20 year sentence and her request may have been granted if she had served more of her sentence.

24 foreigners housed in Bali's Kerobokan prison Antara News Agency estimates that 24 foreign nationals are now housed as prisoners in Denpasar's main Kerobokan prison. The prisonís warden, Yon Suharyono, said, "of the number, 18 are convicted prisoners and six detainees." Detainees are traditionally held at the prison while awaiting trial.

Corby gets out of prison to go to beauty salon Convicted Australian drugs trafficker Schapelle Corby, who is currently serving 20 years in prison for the attempted smuggling marijuana from Bali to Australia, spent several hours in a beauty salon to have her hair and nails done. The 30-year-old was convicted of smuggling 4.1 kilograms of marijuana in 2005. Together with two security guards she was brought to a beauty salon in the Balinese capital of Denpasar. The salon is near a hospital where she has been treated for depression, according to witnesses.

Indonesia against prisoner transfers for drug criminals Authorities in Indonesia say they oppose transferring prisoners convicted of drug crimes or terrorism back to Australia, dealing a blow to the hopes of the Bali Nine and Schapelle Corby. Security chief busted with narcotics inside prison Tempo Interaktif reports that Bali's Chief of Police, Inspector General Paulus Purwoko, has ordered anti-narcotic raids at all of Bali's prisons. The order follows the recent capture and arrest of Muhammad Sudrajad, the Chief of Security at Bali's Kerobokan for his alleged involvement a narcotics transaction and further reports of his involvement in a large drug ring at the prison.

Bombers warned to file appeal within a month or face firing squad Indonesia's Attorney General's Office(AGO) is giving the lawyers of the three 2002 Bali bombing convicts until the end of the month to file for a Supreme Court review of their cases or it will set an execution date in the near future. "The date will be set if there is no further legal intervention from their lawyers along the way," said attorney general Abdul Rahman, who believes the three bombers should be executed soon to avoid further delays.

Indonesia trims sentences for Bali bombing convicts At least 10 people convicted for the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings that killed 202 people had their sentences cut on Thursday to mark Indonesia's independence day, allowing one of them to walk free from prison. Australia said victims and their families would be upset by the decision. Most of those killed were foreign tourists, including 88 Australians.

Mate, you can now move to Aussie jail There is some good news for Australians serving jail terms in Bali's Kerobokan prison. Thanks to a prisoner transfer agreement to be signed between Australia and Indonesia, they will be able to serve out their sentences in their home country, closer to their own families. One would think they would be happy, especially as Kerobokan prison has been described as a hell-hole where sanitary and health standards are sorely lacking.

Protesters storm Bali jail, demand death for bombers Some 500 protesters demanding execution of three militants on death row over the 2002 blasts on Indonesia's Bali island broke into a jail on Wednesday where the inmates had been held until the previous day, witnesses said. Wearing traditional Balinese headbands and sarongs, some protesters climbed over the outer fence of the Kerobokan prison while others knocked down a steel door into the jail.

Bali bombers transferred to Nusa Kambangan prison Three convicts responsible for the 2002 Bali bombings were transferred to a Central Java prison on Tuesday as Balinese prepared to mark the anniversary of the tragedy. The transfer came on the heels of mounting pressure from the Balinese that the convicts on death row -- Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Ghufron alias Mukhlas -- be executed immediately. Public pressure increased for the death sentence to be carried out following a second bomb attack in Jimbaran and Kuta Square here on Oct. 1, which killed 23 people.

Indonesia reduces jail sentences of militants Six convicted Indonesian militants linked to the deadly blasts in Bali in 2002 have received a two month reduction of their jail sentences by President Megawati Sukarnoputri, a prison warden said on Tuesday. The six convicted men are serving jail terms ranging from three to six years after being found guilty of hiding one of the bombers responsible for the blasts that ripped through two Bali nightclubs in October 2002, killing 202 people.
