Status of Mount Karangetang volcano raised again The National Disaster Relief Agency BNPB has announced that the alert status of the Mount Karangetang volcano on the island of Siau in North Sulawesi province has been raised from three to four. This was done late in the afternoon yesterday after more information about the recent eruption and current activity of the volcano was processed.

Mount Seulawah Agam shows signs of activity The Center for Volcanology and Disaster Mitigation has put Mt. Seulawah Agam in Aceh on the lowest alert level following a series of earthquakes recorded in the last few days. Video: Eruption of Mount Karangetang volcano The Mount Karangetang volcano on the island of Siau in North Sulawesi has erupted again early this morning. The volcano started erupting last Thursday, but the intensity of the eruption is still growing. The volcano shot lava and molten rock as high as two kilometers in the air. Authorities have started to organise emergency shelters for those living on the slopes of the volcano.

Mount Krakatau spews lava Mount Krakatau - in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra - has been put on the second-highest alert because it has been spewing ash for several days now. Saut Simatupang, from the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, said that the increased activity of the Anak Krakatau volcano posed a big danger so people have been advised to stay outside a three-kilometer danger zone around the volcano.

Karangetang expected to erupt again The Karangetang volcano on the small island of Siau just north of main island Sulawesi, well-known as a diving destination, has become more active once again. Yesterday BMG, the Meteorological and Geophysical Group, decided to raise the status of the volcano to '4', which means that a renewed eruption is expected within a few days.

Karangetang volcano erupts again today The Karangetang volcano in eastern Indonesia spewed hot lava and clouds of ash high into the atmosphere early on Monday according to a volcanologist. The eruption came just hours after hundreds of residents living on the slopes were evacuated. There are no reports of injuries or damage according to Yudi Satipang, a volcanologist who has been monitoring the Karangetang volcano on the island of Siau since it was placed on high alert last weekend.

The evacuations come after a warning from authorities that an eruption could be imminent. Soputan volcano on Sulawesi erupts The Soputan volcano on the northern top of the island of Sulawesi has started spewing ash and rocks. Lava debris is starting to descend down it's slopes but no evacuation had taken place according to an official on Tuesday. Mount Soputan, 2.175 kilometers northeast of the Indonesian capital Jakarta, is no threat to the nearest villages, located at 11 kilometers from it's crater. Even in the event of an actual eruption there is no direct danger, according to Saut Sumatupang, head of Indonesia's Volcanology Survey.

This came after it showed signs of increasing activity on Monday evening. Villagers refused to leave areas outside volcano-zone A volcano in eastern Indonesia spewed hot gas and debris 1 1/2 kilometers (a mile) down its slopes on Monday, but hundreds of villagers were refusing to leave areas just outside the danger-zone, officials said. No injuries were reported. Mount Karangetang, one of the country's most active mountains, has been at a state of high alert for two weeks.

Volcano alert in Sulawesi to highest level Indonesia has raised the alert status of Karangetang volcano in the country's eastern region by one level to its highest after activity increased, the Directorate of Vulcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation said today. Karangetang volcano, which lies at the northern end of Siau island in North Sulawesi province, has been spewing lava and hot clouds since July 22, the agency said. The 1,784-meter volcano had more than 40 recorded eruptions since 1675, according to U.S. Geological Survey.
