Flood hit Kampung Melayu celebrating Idul Adha Floods submerged most of the Kampung Melayu area of East Jakarta, when the people were celebrating Idul Adha on Tuesday. "The flood water was as high as 30 to 100 centimeters in Kampung Melayu this morning," head of the emergency and logistic division of the Regional Disaster Controlling Agency (BPBD) Iwan Samosir said.

Jokowi performs Idul Adha prayer with president New Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, accompanied President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to perform Idul Adha prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque here on Friday. Besides Jokowi, Agus Harimurti and Edhie Bakoro Yudhoyono, sons of President Yudhoyono, also accompanied the head of state during the prayer gathering.

Local Muslims reject arrival of Abu Bakar Ba'ashir The plan of religious leader Abu Bakar Ba'ashir to bring a visit to Lumajang has caused a strong reaction from local Muslims. They reject the arrival of the Muslem cleric from Solo. They say that a majority of the people in Lumajang will feel uneasy with a visit from him. "We strongly are against a visit of Abu Bakar Ba'ashir to Lumajang," said Abdurrohim, one of the Islamic leaders from the Tompokersan sub-district in Lumajang.

Indonesian public holidays for 2008 3 ministries of the Indonesian Government have officially decreed the schedule of public holidays for 2008. Jointly agreed between the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, and the State Minister for Administrative Reform - the schedule covers both traditional religious and political holidays in addition to "shared holidays" creating extended holidays.

Military chief denies clash with police in Central Sulawesi A high-ranking military chief denied that rival factions of the armed forces and police have clashed in the restive province of Central Sulawesi, a local media report said Tuesday. Major General Arief Budi Sampurna, chief of the Wirabuana Regional Military Command overseeing Sulawesi, denied the incident took place and said military and police were conducting joint patrols for the Muslim holy day of Idul Adha (Day of Sacrifice).

Sampit tense again after guns go missing Tension rose in the riot-torn town of Sampit again on Tuesday following the disappearance of six guns and 80 sets of military uniforms despite the security forces effort to restore order in the area, an official said. The official, who requested anonymity, said that the guns and uniforms had probably been stolen by locals.
