15 dead in quake; reports from huge damage area The 7.3 magnitude earthquake that shook big parts of western Indonesia has caused widespread damage in big parts of western Java. At least 15 people were killed in the quake in various locations hit by the earthquake. Priyadi Kardono, the head of the National Disaster Management Agency, said 15 people were dead in several locations. Earlier, Priyadi said six died in Cianjur alone because of a landslide that was triggered by the massive earthquake.

Extra long buses added to Jakarta Busway route Extra long buses for the Trans-Jakarta bus way system - often named just 'Busway' - will be used on the route Kampung Melayu-Ancol, or Corridor V. The launch of the new buses was executed by the governor of Jakarta, Fauzi Bowo yesterday morning. Ten new extra long buses have been prepared to be operational starting from today. These new buses can only be used on this corridor, because the infrastructure here is completely ready as well.

TransJakarta bus system to get more buses To increase the frequency of buses in the TransJakarta bus system, the city government has promised to add more buses to th system. This will be arranged by Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo. At this moment, the TransJakarta bus system operator has 329 buses in it's fleet. The buses are used on seven corridors. Most routes now are overcrowded during operational hours, forcing people to be on overcrowded buses or to wait long for an empty bus to show up.

After a day of voting, the vice-president of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, sent his congratulations to the couple. Kiev offering help to set up Jakarta subway system The city of Kiev (Ukraine) has offered subway development assistance to the city government of Jakarta, which is planning to have a mass rapid transportation system, quoting the deputy mayor of Kiev, Sergiy Yaroslavovych Rudik. Kiev, which already has a subway system with 40 stations, is ready to send experts to Jakarta to help it building it's own subway system. Blok M in South Jakarta to get major makeover The Jakarta administration plans to rearrange the already-crowded and chaotic area of Blok M, South Jakarta, to make it a commercial center. The plan is aimed at curbing the fast-growing businesses, which have encroached on the residential areas of South Jakarta.
