Indonesian jet fighters hold drill in East Java Several Indonesian Air Force jet fighters held a drill in Situbondo District, East Java Province, on Wednesday during this years Joint Military Exercises. Jet fighters such as Sukhoi, F-16 and BAE Hawk flew in several maneuvers and spewed tens of bombs on a ground target in the Karang Tekok exercise range in the district.

Defense Ministry to revise budget for arms procurement, maintenance Indonesia`s Defense Ministry will in the near future revise its budget for purchase and maintenance of military weapons and equipment of the Indonesian Armed Forces following the lifting of the US arms embargo on Indonesia last week. Indonesia sends 4 F-16 jetfighters to East Kalimantan The Indonesian Air Force is stationing four F-16 jetfighters in East Kalimantan to carry out patrol duties over the Ambalat area in the Sulawesi Sea which Malaysia recently claimed as being part of its territory, the country's official news agency said Sunday. "The four jetfighters have left their base in Madiun, East Java,and will arrive in Balikpapan, East kalimantan, in the afternoon,"the Antara News Agency quoted Air Force Chief of Staff Vice Marshal Djoko Suyanto as saying at the presidential office here Sunday.

Indonesia in all-out bid to crush Aceh rebels Indonesian troops are pressing ahead with a military offensive against separatists in the province of Aceh. After three months of fighting following the collapse of a peace deal, army commanders said more than 800 Muslim fighters had been killed and around 1,000 captured out of an estimated rebel force of 5,000 or fewer.

F-16 jets used against separatists The Indonesian military has used two of its US-made F-16 jets as it stepped up its campaign against separatist forces in Aceh, although military officials yesterday denied reports they had bombed or fired on rebel hide-outs. Two other US-made aircraft, OV-10 Broncos, also were involved in the attacks, although air force spokesman Colonel Iskandar said he could not confirm reports they had fired 16 air-to-ground rockets in the operation.

Indonesia bans foreign tourists from Aceh Indonesia has banned foreign tourists from visiting war-torn Aceh while all other foreigners, including journalists, would need permission to visit the westernmost province. The ban comes after Indonesian troops shot dead a German tourist on June 4 when he did not identify himself to a night patrol. The curbs were outlined in a presidential decree, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters Tuesday. The decree took effect Monday.
