Strong earthquake hits the Banda Sea in Indonesia A strong earthquake struck deep underneath the Banda Sea in Indonesia on early Wednesday morning, seismologists said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

-The 6.4-magnitude earthquake was centered about 252 kilometers (156 miles) north-northwest of Saumlaki on the Tanimbar Islands. It struck about 128 kilometers (79 miles) below the surface, making it a deep earthquake, according to the country's seismological center.

-The agency said there was no tsunami threat as a result of the earthquake.

Strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake hits off Maluku island A strong earthquake struck north of the Indonesian island of Wetar on early Sunday morning, seismologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The 6.1-magnitude earthquake at 12.44 a.m. local time (1544 GMT Saturday) was centered in the Banda Sea, northwest of the Indonesian island of Wetar in Maluku Province.

6.7 magnitude earthquake hits Maluku An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter Scale has shaken parts of eastern Indonesia a while ago. The earthquake in the southern Molucca region had place at 17:57 local time and was located under the sea-floor at a depth of some 67 kilometer and an epicenter of 152 kilometers southwest of the island of Tual. There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.

Sail 2010 to be organised near Banda After a successful Sail Bunaken 2009, held in Manado in North Sulawesi, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will organize a similar event next year as well. The location for this event will be Banda, one of the island is the Moluccan archipelago. The event is already named 'Sail Banda 2010'.

6.9 earthquake strikes in the Banda Sea A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 has hit the waters of the Banda Sea earlier today. The quake had place ar 09:51 local time (GMT+7) at a depth of 670 kilometers below the seabed. Because of it's depth, it did not create a tsunami. The center of the earthquake was 234 kilometers southeast of Bau-Bau and the tremor was felt as far away as Waingapu on the island of Sumba. The quake was also felt as a light earthquake in the cities of Kupang and Ende.

Quake off eastern Indonesia, no tsunami warning A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Indonesia in the Banda sea area on Tuesday, an official at the national earthquake center said, but there were no reports of damage or a tsunami. "There was a quake in Banda sea at 10:05 a.m. Jakarta time (0305 GMT)," said Fauzi at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (MGA). "There is no potential tsunami and also no damage."

Passenger plane slides off the runway on Banda An Indonesian passenger plane carrying 17 people slid off the runway while landing on the eastern island of Banda on Monday, officials said. Almost everyone on board suffered injuries, none of them serious. The Merpati Airline plane, arriving from the town of Masohi on Seram Island in rainy conditions, was carrying three crew and 14 passengers, said Abdullah Akhir, chief of the clinic that was treating the victims.

Quake rocks 2000km stretch of Indonesia A magnitude 7.7 earthquake has jolted a 2,000-kilometre swathe of Indonesia for two minutes, sending panicked residents fleeing to higher ground, fearful of a tsunami. There were no immediate reports of a tsunami, injuries or serious damage. The quake struck early on Saturday morning deep beneath the Banda Sea about 195 kilometres south of Ambon city in the Maluku Islands, the US Geological Survey said on its website.

The earthquake took place at 01:58 Saturday local time or 16:58 (UTC) on Friday, January 27, 2006. The magnitude 7.7 quake took place at great depth, over 300 kilometers. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no destructive tsunami threat existed. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Two strong earthquakes rock Maluku island Two strong earthquakes rocked Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, the local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said. The first quake of magnitude-6.4 struck just about 40 minutes after midnight while the second, measuring 6.0 magnitude came at 7:40 a.m., said Benny Sipollo of the Agency's office in Ambon.

7.2 magnitude earthquake hits Maluku A powerful earthquake struck eastern Indonesia late Wednesday, meteorological agencies said, and was felt as far off as Australia. No damage or injuries were immediately reported. The magnitude 7.2 quake, which did not trigger a tsunami, was centered about 200 miles southeast of Ambon in the Banda Sea, Japan's Meteorological Agency said. The U.S. Geological Survey put the earthquake's magnitude at 6.8.
