JAKARTA - The Prabowo-Hatta presidential and vice presidential candidate pair have expressed their readiness to ensure an honest and peaceful election by avoiding acts that can be detrimental to the people of Indonesia.
"Together with all our coalition members, we are ready for the presidential election by conducting clean and peaceful campaigns without any violent acts," Prabowo stated after signing an election commission declaration calling for peaceful elections on Tuesday evening.
Prabowo said he was encouraged by the commitment of election organizers and the election supervisory board to conduct a peaceful, clean, and respectable election. "We are hoping for a peaceful and clean election because the general election is the embodiment of democracy," Prabowo noted.
According to him, Indonesia has taken a long time to painstakingly build its political culture and democracy as it was the goal of the nations founding fathers. "Indonesia is recognized as the worlds third-largest democracy, and therefore, we have to protect and maintain it with a peaceful and clean election," Prabowo emphasized.
He further added that the election was a good opportunity for the Indonesian community to elect their leader who has the capability to advance the nation.
"I have requested my supporters to comply with the election regulations during the campaigns because Jokowi is my brother and his running mate Jusuf Kalla is my senior whom I respect. Therefore, we have promised to accept the publics decision in the upcoming election," Prabowo asserted.
Prabowo reiterated that if the public entrusted their mandate to him and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa in the election, they will earnestly work towards advancing the nation. "But, if the mandate goes to the Jokowi-Kalla pair, we will respect the decision because we are sure that Jokowi and Kalla are also the nations patriots," he stated.
