MATARAM, WEST NUSA TENGGARA - Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Moeldoko warned here on Monday against disrupting national stability during the general elections this year, citing the consequences.
"I do not want national stability to be disrupted by anyone and if that happens, well, you know the risks," he told newsmen after attending a meeting at the Mataram Teachers Training Institute.
He made the statement when asked to comment on some political observers view on various actions of rejection of Joko Widodo (Jokowi), following the latters declaration to run for the president.
The political observers thought that all the actions were political and constituted negative campaigns to potentially cause national disintegration in view of the huge number of Jokowis supporters.
Some political parties have launched attacks that could potentially disrupt national stability. Moeldoko did not underplay the potential for disruption of national stability and, therefore, had made the strong statement. He said disruption of national security and stability will affect investments in the country.
"Investments may be delayed (because of that). So, as a TNI commander, I wish that no one for whatever reasons would disrupt stability. I said no one must try it," he added. The process of the legislative elections has now reached the stage of open campaign rallies until April 5 before the polling day of April 9, or three days of the cooling-down period.
Recapitulation of votes, meanwhile, is scheduled from April 26 to May 6, and confirmation of the national vote results will be from May 7 to 9 before confirmation of political parties that pass the three percent parliamentary threshold is done.
The confirmation of seat distribution at the district/city to the national levels will be done on May 11 to 18, and inauguration of the district/city, the provincial, the national legislative assembly members and the regional representatives is scheduled from June until September.
The swearing of the legislative assembly and the regional representative council members, meanwhile, are scheduled from July to October 2014.
