Anti-graft body questions brother-in-law of suspended governor JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned Tubagus Haerul Jaman, the younger brother-in-law of the suspended Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah, in an alleged bribery case in a regional head election dispute in Banten province.

"Tubagus, who is also the mayor of Serang (Banten provinces capital city), is being questioned as a witness in the case of Ratu Atut," the head of Press and Information Affairs at KPK, Prihasa Nugraha, said here on Tuesday.

The anti-graft commission also questioned Ade Komaruddin, a member of the House of Representatives (DPRs) Commission XI on financial affairs, who is also a Golkar Party executive board chairman and the partys election success team chairman.

In a dispute over the election of a regional head in Lebak District in Banten, Ratu Atut allegedly agreed to give a bribe of Rp1 billion to Akil Mochtar, the Constitutional Court chairman, to rule in favor of one of the contestants on the dispute over the results of the election of the Lebak regional head.

The money was provided by Tugagus Chaeri Wardana, better known as Wawan, who is a younger brother of Ratu Atut. The money was handed over through Amir Hamzah Laywer, who is also a former subordinate of Akil.

In the case, Ratu Atut has been charged with Article 6, point 1, letter a, Law No. 31 /2999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Crime Corruption Eradication, juncture Article 55, point 1 ke-1 of KUHP.

The article regulates violations by people who give or promise something to judges with an intention to influence their decision. This violation is punishable by 3-15 years in prison and a fine of Rp150-Rp750 million.

Last week, the KPK also summoned film star Catherine Wilson for questioning on the money laundering case against Wawan. "I will make clarifications first (with the KPK)," Catherine told reporters after she arrived at the KPK office here on Monday.

Catherine was summoned by the anti-graft agency to explain why she had received a car from Wawan. Wawan has been charged with corruption and money laundering.

The KPK said Wawan had given cars as gifts to a number of film stars and members of the regional legislative assembly. The anti-graft body has investigated two other artists Rebecca Reijman and Jennifer Dunn in the same case. The KPK has confiscated all of these cars. Altogether, the KPK has confiscated 42 cars, including from Wawans house and companies.

The cars included luxury cars such as Ferrari, Lamborgini Aventador, Bentley Continental, Rolls Royce Flying Spu, Nissan GTR, Toyota Vellfire, Mitsubishi Pajero, Honda CR-V, Mercedes Benz, Mini Cooper, Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota Lexus. Other luxury cars included Toyota Innova, BMW, Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Outlander, Ford Fiesta, Nissan Terano, Honda Freed, Isuzu Panther, Toyota Avanza, Suzuki APV and Izusu Panthaer as well as a Harley Davidson motorbike.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the KPK has not stopped tracking down the allegedly ill gained assets of Wawan. Wawan was charged with bribery in the Lebak district election, marking up the price of health equipment for a health center in Tangerang Selatan and corruption in the procurement of health equipment for the Banten province.
