PAMANUKAN - The northern coastal road from Jakarta to Surabaya, popularly known as Pantura, has been completely blocked by floodwaters in Pamanukan in the district of Subang. The fly-over in the heart of Pamanukan has been flooded on both sides and is submerged in about one meter of water. This main road is economically very important for transport over land.
"Until now the area is still heavily flooded before and after the fly-over. In both directions there is a huge traffic jam," said Chiko Ardiwiatt, head of the regional police in Subang. "We can only wait until the floodwaters lower again, so the road becomes dry and passable."
Ardiwiatt said that he is in contact with the police in Purwakarta, Cirebon and Indramayu to make sure traffic there is informed about the flood and road closure for the time being. Users of this road can only choose to wait until the floodwaters have receded or take a huge detour via Subang and Purwakarta.
These heavy floodings in the district of Subang have only started early this morning after a nights worth of heavy rains. Earlier today a dike along one of the main rivers in the district broke, after which 11 sub-districts were flooded very quickly. Pamanukan and Ciasem along Pantura as well as Pusakanagara, Pagaden, Cipunagara, Tambakdahan and Blanakan are hit.
