JAKARTA - Indonesia continued investigating and seeking clarification with regard to alleged wiretapping on a number of its officials including the president, presidential spokesman Aldrin Pasha said to Antara here on Monday.
"Actually the current issue was the first heard and reported as sometime ago when a case of bugging by certain country emerged or was reported the president had also immediately issued an instruction to officials concerned especially the foreign minister and the chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) to study it and seek clarification to the party concerned," he said.
Pasha said right now the officials that had received an instruction still continued working in line with the development of information in the field. "Right now they, the foreign affairs ministry and the BIN, are still working and formulating further steps needed in line with the development," he said.
The Guardian, a newspaper based in Australia, on Monday published a report about wiretapping efforts made by that country on a number of countries in Asia including Indonesia. In its report, the newspaper said that a number of Indonesian officials including President Susilo Yudhoyono had been affected.
