JAKARTA - The police expressed its gratitude to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday for saying that the police are the most corrupt, but denied that there was any truth in the statement.
"We respect and appreciate the criticism, input and correction and hope it will help make the police perform better," Senior Commissioner Agus Rianto, head of public information at the National Police Headquarters, stated.
He added that although the police appreciated the criticism, it also denied that there was any truth in the statement. "The truth is yet to be revealed," Rianto said.He further said that the police wished to know the context for the KPK`s statement and hoped that the accusation was based on accurately analyzed facts and data.
Rianto also said that the police wished to receive the data and facts that will be used to conduct an internal investigation to check the veracity of these claims and bring about improvement."We hope they will give us the data as a follow up measure," he said.
KPK deputy Adnan Pandu Praja had stated on Monday that the police was the most corrupt institution in the country. "The police is the most corrupt, followed by the parliament," he said.

Well, actually the police becomes aware of the fact that there is a lot (a lot?????) of corruption in state institutions. Already several times I had this discussion with police officers who wanted to fine me for something absurd and pointed them to the contradiction in attitude towards the overloaded trucks which just got away from the jembatan timbang (= weigh bridge) of the Dinas Perhubungan (= transportation officials) and other road users. Never say directly that the police is corrupt because before you're aware you have a lawsuit for libel against you.
