DENPASAR, BALI - Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika has expressed his disappointment over delays in completion and handover of the renovated Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Part of a range of major infrastructure investments by the government in the lead up to the APEC Conference in the first week of October 2013, the major renovation of Bali’s airport must be completed before October 1st in order to welcome presidential delegations from some 20 countries.
Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, governor Pastika said: “I am disappointed, the work is very late." Pastika’s remarks were made at the launch of a security management system held in Nusa Dua, South Bali on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
The governor has served notice on the contractor for the airport, asking that construction be performed on a 24-hour basis in order to have the air gateway in shape in time for APEC.
“Work 24-hours, work morning and night. That’s what I am asking. Don’t mess around, this is the final month and everything is on the line,” warned governor Pastika. Pastika added: “This is still a mess. We have to rush. I must come here often.”
Not only does the airport have less than one month to complete its massive renovation, numerous new systems must be introduced and tested to ensure smooth operations before the all-important APEC conference.

So, I reckon that makes Pastika the only person who believed that this project would be ready in time. Mr. Governor, Bali is part of Indonesia and therefore nothing is every ready in time, finished within the budget, works properly when in operation or is engineerd and constructed to last longer than 6 months without breaking apart. Welcome to the real world!
