JAKARTA - Going downhill at high speed in Cianjur, West Java, a tour bus hit a rocky hillside, leaving 12 people dead, 12 sustained severe injury, and tens other had minor injury, according to a report on Wednesday.
The report from the crash site said brake failure was blamed for the deadly accident. All injured victims are now being treated at he Cimacan Regional General Hospital, Cipanas.
"Currently five senior citizens are still having serious injuries and unconscious. We will provide them with the best possible medical treatment, but if possible, we will refer them to bigger hospital," said the hospital`s head Darmawan.
Most of the survivors are children aged less than five to 10 years, they participated in a group pilgrimage with their parents heading to Cikalongkulon, Cianjur, West Java. Besides, two children aged eight years are reported to be in a coma, and according to the hospital`s plan they will be referred to another hospital in Bogor.
The hospital also estimates that the death toll will continue to grow because of the serious wounds in the head condition is quite serious. Currently, Cianjur Police are still collecting data the number of survivors and slightly wounded is 32 people based on the initial record.
The accident also creates four kilometres traffic congestion from the crash site, said Bogor Police traffic head unit officer Edwin Affandi in Cianjur, West Java, Wednesday.
Edwin said that the Mustika Mega Utama bus crashed into a rocky wall that is located on in the mountain traffic route, Paragon corner, Ciloto, Cianjur, West Java, where five reported dead instantly.
The bus evacuation process is still ongoing and the police have to manage the traffic by giving priority to small vehicles such as motorcycles and private cars. "Trucks and pick-ups must wait until the evacuation process is over before they can pass the road, or they might create traffic congestion," he said.
