JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo said the Jakarta administration could not satisfy all in connection with his decision to raise provincial minimum wage (UMP) from Rp1.5 million per month to Rp2.2 million in 2013. "It is difficult to satisfy all," Jokowi, as Joko Widodo is popularly called, said here on Wednesday.
Jokowi said that his side has invited the Indonesian Employers` Association (Apindo) and workers unions before he decided to set the regional minimum wage for Jakarta and its buffer towns of Tangerang and Bekasi. "That morning, before we fix the minimum wage, the City`s Remuneration Board (DP DKI) has made calculation about it," he added.
He said the fixing of the UMP 2013 has passed the remuneration board. "All are passed through the remuneration board after we have met with employers and workers unions. We have passed all stages until we arrived at the decision," the governor said.
Earlier on Wednesday (Nov 14), Jakarta administration fixed the 2013 minimum wage at Rp2.2 million (US$228), 44 percent higher than that of 2012. The Workers Forum has urged the government to raise sectoral Provincial Minimum Wages (UMSP) to between 15 percent and 50 percent.
They proposed that the amount of 2013 UMSP for the chemical, energy and mining is raised to between 15 and 20 percent of the 2013 UMSP. The minimum wage for metal, electronics and machinery sectors is raised to between 24 and 25 percent and the automotive sector between 25 and 30 percent.
The insurance and banking sectors were proposed to be raised by 50 percent, pharmacy and health 15-16 percent, textile, garment and leather 20 percent, tourism 15 percent, telecommunications 40-50 percent and retail sector 15 percent.
